This document serves as a comprehensive user manual for an AEG fridge freezer, providing detailed instructions for its installation, safe operation, daily use, maintenance, and troubleshooting. The appliance is designed for storing food and beverages in a single household domestic environment, and can also be used in offices, hotel guest rooms, bed & breakfast guest rooms, farm guest houses, and similar accommodations, provided usage levels do not exceed average domestic use.
Function Description
The AEG fridge freezer is equipped with several functions to optimize food preservation and user convenience. It features separate compartments for refrigeration and freezing, allowing for distinct temperature control. The appliance utilizes isobutane (R600a) as a refrigerant, a natural gas with high environmental compatibility.
Key functions include:
- Temperature Regulation: Users can set the desired temperature for both the fridge and freezer compartments. Recommended settings are +4°C for the fridge and -18°C for the freezer, with adjustable ranges to suit various needs.
- Coolmatic Function: This feature is designed for rapid cooling of large amounts of warm food placed in the fridge, preventing temperature increases for other stored items. It activates automatically or can be manually engaged and typically stops after approximately 6 hours.
- Frostmatic Function: For the freezer compartment, the Frostmatic function pre-freezes and fast-freezes fresh food, protecting already frozen items from undesirable warming. It is recommended to activate this function at least 24 hours before adding fresh food for freezing and automatically deactivates after 52 hours.
- Holiday Mode: This mode allows the fridge compartment to remain empty during long holiday periods, reducing bad odors while the freezer operates normally. It switches off automatically when a different temperature is selected.
- DYNAMICAIR Function: The refrigerator compartment includes a DYNAMICAIR device for rapid food cooling and maintaining a more uniform temperature. This function activates automatically when needed or can be switched on manually. Its activation increases energy consumption, and the fan operates only when the door is closed.
- ChildLock Function: To prevent unintentional operation, the ChildLock function locks the appliance buttons.
- DrinksChill Function: This feature sets an acoustic alarm for a preferred time, useful for cooling food products or as a reminder for items placed in the freezer for fast cooling. The timer can be set from 1 to 90 minutes.
- High Temperature Alarm: An audible and visual alarm activates if the freezer compartment's temperature increases significantly, for example, due to a power failure.
- Door Open Alarm: An alarm sounds and flashes if the fridge door is left open for approximately 5 minutes.
Usage Features
The appliance offers flexible storage solutions and user-friendly controls:
- Control Panel: A display and dedicated buttons allow users to adjust temperatures, activate special functions, and manage alarms.
- Movable Door Shelves: The door shelves can be repositioned at different heights to accommodate various package sizes.
- Movable Shelves: The refrigerator walls are equipped with runners for flexible shelf positioning. Some models include a two-part shelf where the front half can be slid under the second half to optimize space.
- Vegetable Drawers: Special drawers in the bottom part are provided for storing fruits and vegetables.
- CleanAir Filter: The appliance is equipped with a CleanAir carbon filter in a drawer within the DYNAMICAIR device. This filter purifies the air, removing unwanted odors and improving storage quality. The filter should be changed annually.
- Ice-Cube Production: The freezer includes trays for making ice cubes.
Maintenance Features
Regular maintenance is crucial for the appliance's longevity and efficient operation:
- Cleaning: The interior and accessories should be cleaned regularly with lukewarm water and a neutral soap. Door seals should be checked and wiped clean to ensure they are free from debris. Abrasive cleaners, chlorine, or oil-based products should not be used. Accessories are not suitable for dishwasher cleaning.
- Defrosting the Refrigerator: Frost is automatically eliminated from the refrigerator evaporator during normal use. The defrost water drains into a container at the back of the appliance, where it evaporates. The defrost water drain hole in the refrigerator compartment channel should be periodically cleaned using the provided tube cleaner to prevent blockages and water overflow.
- Defrosting the Freezer: The freezer compartment is frost-free, meaning no manual defrosting is required as frost does not build up on internal walls or food.
- CleanAir Filter Replacement: The active carbon filter should be replaced once a year to maintain its effectiveness in absorbing odors. The manual provides instructions for removing and inserting the filter.
- Period of Non-Operation: If the appliance will not be used for an extended period, it should be disconnected from the electricity supply, emptied of all food, cleaned, and its doors left open to prevent unpleasant smells.
- Replacing the Lamp: The appliance is equipped with a long-life LED interior light. Only authorized service personnel are permitted to replace the lighting device.
- Closing the Door: To ensure proper operation and energy efficiency, door gaskets should be cleaned, and if necessary, the door adjusted or defective gaskets replaced by an Authorized Service Centre.
