Function Description
The AEG Fridge Freezer is designed for household and similar applications, providing both refrigeration and freezing capabilities for food storage. It uses isobutane (R600a) as a refrigerant, which is an environmentally compatible natural gas. The appliance features separate compartments for fresh food (refrigerator) and frozen food (freezer), allowing for optimal storage conditions for different types of perishables. The freezer compartment is frost-free, eliminating the need for manual defrosting. The refrigerator compartment, however, undergoes automatic defrosting, with the defrost water draining into a special container at the back of the appliance where it evaporates.
Usage Features
The fridge freezer offers a range of features to enhance usability and food preservation:
- Temperature Regulation: Users can set the desired temperature for both the fridge and freezer compartments using dedicated temperature regulators. The default settings are +5°C for the fridge and -18°C for the freezer. The set temperature is maintained even after a power failure.
- Coolmatic Function: This feature is ideal for rapidly chilling large quantities of warm food, such as groceries after shopping. It helps prevent the warming of existing food in the refrigerator. The Coolmatic function automatically deactivates after approximately 6 hours.
- Holiday Mode: Designed for long periods when the appliance will be closed and empty, this mode helps prevent the formation of bad odors.
- Frostmatic Function: This function accelerates the freezing of fresh food, protecting already stored foodstuffs from undesirable warming. It automatically stops after 52 hours.
- ChildLock Function: To prevent unintentional operation, the appliance includes a ChildLock function that locks the control panel buttons.
- DrinksChill Function: This feature allows users to set an acoustic alarm for a preferred time, useful for cooling food products for a specific duration or as a reminder for items placed in the freezer for fast cooling. The timer can be adjusted from 1 to 90 minutes.
- High Temperature Alarm: The appliance alerts users with a flashing alarm icon, freezer temperature indicators, and an audible buzzer if the temperature in the freezer compartment increases significantly (e.g., due to a power failure).
- Door Open Alarm: If a door is left open for approximately 90 seconds, an acoustic alarm sounds, and the alarm indicator flashes. The alarm stops once the door is closed.
- Movable Shelves: The refrigerator walls are equipped with runners, allowing users to adjust the position of the shelves according to their needs. However, the glass shelf above the vegetable drawer should not be moved to ensure proper air circulation.
- Door Shelves: The fridge compartment door has repositionable shelves for individual preferences.
- Ice-cube Production: The appliance includes trays for making ice cubes.
Maintenance Features
Proper maintenance is crucial for the appliance's longevity and performance:
- Periodic Cleaning: The interior and accessories should be regularly cleaned with lukewarm water and a neutral soap. Door seals should be checked and wiped clean to ensure they are free from debris. The condenser and compressor at the back of the appliance should be cleaned with a brush if accessible, to improve performance and save electricity.
- Defrosting the Refrigerator: The refrigerator compartment automatically defrosts. It's important to periodically clean the defrost water drain hole in the middle of the refrigerator compartment channel to prevent water overflow and dripping onto food.
- Defrosting the Freezer: The freezer compartment is frost-free, meaning no frost buildup occurs during operation, eliminating the need for manual defrosting.
- Periods of Non-Operation: For long periods of non-use, it is recommended to disconnect the appliance from the electricity supply, remove all food, clean the appliance and accessories, and leave the door(s) open to prevent unpleasant smells. Activating Holiday Mode is also suggested if the appliance is to remain switched on but unattended.
- Replacing the Lamp: The appliance uses a long-life LED interior light. Only authorized service personnel are permitted to replace the lighting device.
- Closing the Door: To ensure proper door closure, users should clean the door gaskets, adjust the door if necessary (referencing assembly instructions), and replace defective door gaskets by contacting an Authorized Service Centre.
- General Warnings: Before any maintenance operation, the appliance must be unplugged. The cooling unit contains hydrocarbons, so maintenance and recharging must only be carried out by authorized technicians. Appliance accessories and parts are not suitable for washing in a dishwasher.
