Situation:
Some PNA C-models may exhibit poor noise floor performance caused by inverter shield N5230-
00013.
Solution/Action:
NOTE: The PNA contains extremely sensitive components that can be ruined if mishandled. The
person performing the work accepts responsibility for the full cost of the repair or replacement of
damaged components.
All cables, including wire harnesses and ribbon cables, that are removed should be labeled for
reconnection later. Follow instructions carefully when making cable connections, especially wire
harness connections.
If a PNA C-model exhibits poor noise performance, examine the inverter shield to see if it is the
N5230-00013. Figure 1 shows that the N5230-00013 shield has vent holes. If present, replace the old
shield (N5230-00013) with the new shield (N5230-00017) as per the following instructions.
Refer to the PNA Service Guide for instruction on removing the PNA front panel. To view this
Service Guide information, use the following steps:
1. Go to http://www.agilent.com.
2. Enter your PNA model number (Ex: E8363C) in the Search box and click Search.
3. Scroll down to the heading Manuals and click on the title/hyperlink for the Service Guide. If you
don’t find your Service Guide listed on the Web page that is displayed initially, click on the More
hyperlink.
4. When the PDF of the Service Guide is displayed, look at the bookmarks in the left column.
Expand the Contents section by clicking on the plus sign next to its bookmark.
5. Scroll through the Contents section bookmarks to locate “Repair & Replacement Procedures.”
6. Click on the title/hyperlink for the section “Removing & Replacing the Front Panel Assembly.”
7. Follow the instructions in the subsection “Removal Procedure.”
8. Once the front panel has been removed from the PNA, place it on a flat surface. Figure 1 shows
that the N5230-00013 inverter shield has vent holes.
