Instructions for safely shutting down the MyCloud Mini and forceful shutdown.
The MyCloud Mini is a portable network-attached storage (NAS) device designed to accommodate a single 2.5-inch SATA hard drive. Its primary function is to provide secure network storage, enabling users to easily share digital content with family and friends. The device supports streaming content within a local network to various UPnP-AV and DLNA-compatible devices, such as PlayStation 3, iTunes, and Windows 7. Additionally, it offers remote access to files via any internet-connected computer or through dedicated free iPhone, iPad, and Android applications.
The MyCloud Mini is powered by a dual-core 750MHz System-on-Chip (SOC) processor, providing sufficient performance for its intended network storage and streaming tasks.
It is equipped with 256MB of DDR2 SDRAM for system operations and 256MB of NAND flash memory for the operating system and other essential data.
The device supports 2.5-inch SATA-I or SATA-II hard drives with a height ranging from 9.5mm to 14.8mm. It can accommodate capacities from 20GB up to 1.5TB, with support for large volumes exceeding 2TB. The MyCloud Mini utilizes the XFS file system for optimal performance and data integrity.
The front panel features a single dual-color status LED, which indicates the device's operational status.
The rear panel provides several connectivity options:
The front LED provides clear visual feedback on the device's status:
To power on the device, connect the power supply to the MyCloud Mini first, and then plug it into a wall outlet. The system will automatically start up. It typically takes 1-2 minutes for the device to come online, with the blue system LED illuminating when it is ready.
For a safe shutdown, press and hold the power button for approximately 4 seconds until the red LED starts flashing. The system will then shut down all services and power down after about 20 seconds. If the system becomes unresponsive, a forced shutdown can be performed by pressing and holding the power button for 6 seconds to cut off power. For extended periods of non-use, it is recommended to turn off the device and remove the power supply from the wall socket.
The MyCloud Mini offers two types of reset functions via the reset button on the rear panel:
Installing a hard drive involves removing the screws from the bottom of the case and lifting the top enclosure. The hard drive is then placed into the HDD chassis and secured with screws on the side. After installation, the top enclosure is replaced, and the bottom screws are fastened. Rubber feet are then placed over the screws to cover them.
The device's design allows for straightforward HDD installation, which is the primary hardware maintenance task. The software-based reset options provide a means to troubleshoot and restore system configurations or factory defaults, which can be crucial for resolving software-related issues or preparing the device for new users. The clear LED indicators assist in diagnosing the device's operational state, aiding in basic troubleshooting.
