Do you have a question about the Alentec & Orion 24702 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Alentec & Orion AB Hose End Meter (Part No. 24702) is a high-precision measuring device designed for heavy-duty use with mineral oils and pure glycol. It is not suitable for water-based products or glycol mixed with water (antifreeze fluid). The meter is intended for indoor use and should not be exposed to outdoor elements or directly sprayed with high-pressure water or solvents.

Function Description:

The meter features several volume counters:

  • BATCH volume counter: Displays dispensed volume from 0.01 to 999.99 liters (or quarts/pints/gallons) and can be reset to zero.
  • VOLUME PRE-SET function: Allows pre-setting a desired volume from 0.1 to 999.9 liters (or quarts/pints/gallons). When the pre-set volume is reached, the meter automatically stops dispensing and sounds an alarm.
  • TRIP volume counter: Tracks dispensed volume from 1 to 99999 gallons and can be reset.
  • TOTAL volume counter: Tracks total dispensed volume from 1 to 99999 gallons and cannot be reset. Note that the TRIP and TOTAL counters always display in US gallons, even if the BATCH counter is set to pints, quarts, or gallons.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Max Pressure (Pmax): 735 psi (5 Mpa)
  • Min Flow (Qmin): 1 l/min (1 q/min)
  • Max Flow (Qmax): 15 l/min (16 q/min)
  • Temperature Range (Tmin/max): 32 °F / 122 °F (0°C/50°C)
  • Error (Err+max): <1%
  • Weight (m): 1.88 lb (0.85 kg)
  • Battery: Requires a 9V Alkaline battery (IEC 6LR61). A built-in lithium battery maintains calibration memory when the 9V battery is changed. A "Low Battery indicator" signals when the 9V battery needs replacement.
  • Connections: G1/2"

Usage Features:

  • Activation: After mounting the 9V battery, activate the meter by simultaneously pressing the RESET and SELECT buttons for a few seconds. The display will then show 0.00 L.
  • Display Functions: Use the SELECT button to toggle between BATCH, TRIP, and TOTAL volume displays. The display automatically returns to show the actual dispensed volume after approximately four seconds.
  • Normal Dispensing: Before use, reset the display to 0.00 by pressing the RESET button. To start dispensing, press the "safety lock" before pressing the "trigger handle" to prevent accidental oil release. The trigger handle can be locked in the open position and released by pressing it once more.
  • Pre-set Dispensing: Activate the PRE-SET function by pressing the SELECT button or any UP/DOWN arrow button (indicated by the AUTO symbol). Adjust the pre-set volume using the UP/DOWN arrows in 0.1-liter increments. Holding a key for more than 4 seconds changes increments to 1.0 liters for faster setting of large volumes. Dispensing must begin within 10 seconds of setting the pre-set volume, or the meter will revert to BATCH mode. After a pre-set dispense, the trigger handle must be pressed once to release the pre-set mechanism before continuing or starting a new dispense.
  • Unit of Measure: The default unit is liters, but it can be changed to US quarts, US pints, or US gallons. This setting requires accessing the internal SETUP button.
  • Calibration: The meter can be re-calibrated to a specific oil viscosity using a 2-liter measure. This involves accessing the internal SETUP button and adjusting the Scale Factor. If the display flashes between SETUP and 1.0000, the Scale Factor has been lost, possibly due to low voltage in the built-in 3V battery or electrostatic discharge. The meter can still function with a reconnected 9V battery, but recalibration is recommended.

Maintenance Features:

  • Battery Installation: Install a 9V battery as shown in the manual. The unit is shipped unactivated to preserve the built-in lithium battery.
  • Strainer Exchange: The strainer should be checked for blockages if a decrease in flow is noticed. An extra strainer is provided for replacement.
  • Re-calibration: Instructions are provided for re-calibrating the meter if readings are inaccurate. This involves removing a hexagon screw to access the SETUP button and short-circuiting two soldered pads on the circuit board while adjusting the Scale Factor.
  • Changing Unit of Measure: Similar to re-calibration, changing the unit of measure involves removing the hexagon screw, short-circuiting the soldered pads, and using the RESET button to select the desired unit.
