Overview

This document describes the Amazon Basics 2-Slice Toaster, a kitchen appliance designed for toasting bread and bagels. The toaster features a sleek design with a control panel on the side, offering various functions to customize the toasting process.

Function Description

The primary function of this device is to toast bread and bagels. It is equipped with two bread slots, allowing for simultaneous toasting of two slices of bread or two bagel halves. The toaster operates by lowering the bread into the heating elements via a lever, and automatically powers off and ejects the toast once the set time is complete.

Usage Features

The toaster offers several features to enhance the user experience and provide control over the toasting process:

  • Time Control Dial: A numerical dial (settings 1-6) allows users to adjust the desired browning level. Setting 1 corresponds to "Light" toast, while setting 6 corresponds to "High" browning. For sliced bread specifically intended for toasting, a setting of 4 is recommended. The thickness of the bread slice directly affects the baking time and browning. Irregularly-shaped bread may result in uneven toast; standard size (3.94 x 3.94 x 0.39 inches) is recommended for best results.
  • Lever: The lever is used to lower the bread into the slots, initiating the toasting cycle. Once locked into position, the red indicator on the CANCEL button lights up. The lever automatically springs up when the toasting time is over, and the toaster powers off.
  • CANCEL Button: This button, with a red indicator light, allows users to interrupt the toasting process at any time. Pressing it will cause the red indicator to go off and the toasting cycle to stop.
  • FROZEN Button: This button, also with a red indicator, is used to defrost and toast frozen bread slices. When selected, all heating plates are activated.
  • BAGEL Button: This button, with a red indicator, is specifically designed for toasting bagels. When selected, only the middle heating plates are activated, allowing the cut side of the bagel to be toasted while the crust remains warm. For optimal results, bagels should be cut in half and inserted with the crust facing outward.
  • FROZEN BAGEL Program: This program combines the defrosting and bagel-toasting functions, activating only the middle heating plates to defrost and toast bagels. This program is available for selection only up to approximately 16 seconds into the toasting process. If more than 16 seconds have passed, the ongoing process must be cancelled, a new one started (by pulling the lever down), and then the desired program selected.
  • Removable Crumb Tray: Located at the bottom of the toaster, this tray collects crumbs and baking residues, making cleanup easier.
  • Cord Storage: The power cord can be wound around the cord storage area located underneath the appliance for neat storage.
  • Polarized Plug: The appliance features a polarized plug (one blade wider than the other) to reduce the risk of electric shock. It is designed to fit into a polarized outlet only one way. If it does not fit, the plug should be reversed. If it still does not fit, a qualified electrician should be contacted, and no attempt should be made to modify the plug.

Before First Use:

It is recommended to run the appliance through a few cycles without any food to eliminate any manufacturing residues and odors. First, run one full cycle at time control dial 6. Then, repeat at time control dial 4 for 2 or 3 cycles, still without food. Continue this process until no odor or smoke can be detected, ensuring ample ventilation. A slight burning odor when first switched on is normal and does not indicate a defect.

Tips for Use:

  • Use a lower setting when toasting a single bread slice or slightly dry bread.
  • Use a higher setting when toasting fresh or whole wheat bread.
  • When toasting raisin or other fruit breads, remove any loose raisins from the surface before placing them into the toaster.
  • To remove lodged toast, first lift the lever. If toast is still lodged, press the CANCEL button and disconnect the power plug. Wait for the appliance to cool completely before carefully removing the toast, taking care not to damage the heating elements. Do not use conductive tools like forks to remove toast, as this can damage the heating elements.

Safety Precautions:

  • Always read all instructions before use.
  • Do not touch hot surfaces; use handles or knobs.
  • To protect against electric shock, do not immerse the cord, plugs, or the product in water or other liquid.
  • Close supervision is necessary when the appliance is used by or near children.
  • Unplug from the outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts.
  • Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug, or after it malfunctions or has been damaged. Return it to an authorized service facility for examination, repair, or adjustment.
  • Do not operate unattended.
  • When heating toaster pastries, always use the lightest toast color setting.
  • Do not use accessory attachments not recommended by the manufacturer, as they may cause injuries.
  • Do not use outdoors.
  • Do not let the cord hang over the edge of a table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
  • Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
  • To shut down the appliance, press the CANCEL button, then remove the plug from the wall outlet.
  • Do not use the appliance for other than its intended use.
  • Oversize foods, metal foil packages, or utensils must not be inserted into the toaster, as they may involve a risk of fire or electric shock.
  • A fire may occur if toasters are covered by or come into contact with flammable material (curtains, draperies, walls) when in operation.
  • Do not attempt to dislodge food when the toaster is plugged in.
  • This product is for household use only.
  • A short power-supply cord is provided to reduce risks from entanglement or tripping. Longer detachable power-supply cords or extension cords may be used with care, provided their electrical rating is at least as great as the appliance's rating, and the cord is arranged to avoid draping over countertops where it could be pulled by children or tripped over.
  • This appliance is not intended to be operated by means of an external timer or separate remote-control system.
  • Fire hazard! Bread may burn!
  • To disconnect, turn any control to "off," then remove the plug from the wall outlet.

Maintenance Features

  • Cleaning: Before cleaning, ensure the appliance is disconnected from the power supply and has cooled completely. To avoid electric shock, do not clean the appliance with water or immerse it. Do not use abrasives or harsh cleaning solutions. The body of the appliance can be wiped with a dry or slightly damp lint-free cloth. Any other servicing should be performed by an authorized service representative.
  • Crumb Tray: Crumbs and baking residues are collected in the crumb tray. Pull out the tray and empty it regularly. Ensure the crumb tray is put back in place before using the toaster again to prevent food from falling down.
  • Storage: Unplug the appliance and allow it to cool completely before storage. Wind the power cord around the cord storage located underneath the appliance. Store the appliance in a cool and dry place, preferably in its original packaging.

Disposal:

Devices marked with the symbol of a crossed-out wheeled bin must be disposed of separately from household waste, as they contain valuable materials that can be recycled. Proper disposal protects the environment and human health. Your local authority or retailer can provide information on the matter.
