Electrical Considerations
Unpacking the shipping carton
Open the shipping carton and inspect all its contents for possible tampering or damage.
The AMP 7 Series terminal is a secure device and any tampering may cause cease to
function properly.
To unpack the shipping carton
Remove and inspect the following items
Terminal
Power Supply
Power chord
Telephone cable (if available)
Remove plastic wrapping from the terminal
Remove plastic protective film from the LCD
Use only approved power supply that is provided with this device, using other
power supply may cause damage to the device or risk of fire.
Avoid using this product during electrical storms.
Avoid locations near electrical appliances or other devices that cause excessive
voltage fluctuations or emit electrical noise (for example, air conditioners,
electric motors, neon signs, high-frequency or magnetic security devices, or
computer equipment).
Do not use the terminal near water or in moist conditions.
Do not use a terminal that has been damaged or tampered. AMP 7 Series terminal
comes equipped with tamper-evident labels. If a label or component appears
damaged, please notify the shipping company and your AMP representative or
service provider immediately.
Keep the shipping carton and packing materials for feature packing or moving
terminal.

This document provides a quick reference guide for the AMP 7 Series Countertop / Mobile Terminal, specifically the AMP 7000-FD model, manufactured by Advanced Mobile Payment Inc.

Device Function Description

The AMP 7 Series terminal is a versatile point-of-sale (POS) device designed for processing payment transactions. It supports various card reading methods, including smart card insertion, magnetic stripe swiping, and contactless (NFC) tapping. The terminal features an integrated thermal printer for receipts, a keypad for input, and an LCD display for user interaction. It can operate as a countertop device or as a mobile terminal, offering flexibility for different business environments. The device is designed to be secure, with tamper-evident labels to prevent unauthorized access or modification.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Card Readers:
    • User Smart Card Slot: Supports EMV cards with contact surface facing up.

Usage Features

  • Power On/Off: Press and hold the power button until the display illuminates to turn on. Press and hold the power button for 2 to 3 seconds to turn off.
  • Power Source: Can be powered by an AC power supply or the internal Li-ion battery.
  • Payment Card Presentation:
    • Smart Card: Insert the chip card into the user smart card slot with the contact surface facing up.
    • Magnetic Stripe Card: Swipe the card through the magnetic card reader with the magnetic stripe facing downward and towards the LCD. Swipe at a steady speed.
    • Contactless Card: Tap the contactless card within the antenna inductive zone (0 to 4cm from the display).
  • Paper Roll Installation:
    1. Gently pull upwards on the lever in the middle of the printer door to open.
    2. Discard any packing material from the paper roll.
    3. Fit the new paper roll, ensuring correct orientation.
    4. Pull the paper approximately 10cm until it protrudes from the top.
    5. Close the printer door, pushing gently until a 'click' sound is heard.
    6. Remove excess paper by tearing along the serrated edge.
  • SIM/SAM Installation: Place the terminal face down, remove the battery cover, and insert SIM or SAM cards into the designated sockets if required.
  • Battery Charging: Insert the power supply plug into the power port and then into an electrical outlet. Charging takes 2 to 4 hours. The charging status is indicated by an LED (Red while charging, Green when fully charged) and on the LCD display.
  • Connectivity:
    • Telephone Line: Connect a telephone cord to the LAN port and then to a telephone wall jack. Use only No. 26AWG or larger UL Listed or CSA Certified Telecommunication Line Cord.
    • LAN (Ethernet): Connect an Ethernet cable to the LAN port and then to a LAN jack.
    • Optional Devices: The RS-232 port can be used for connecting a PIN pad or other RS-232 devices. Refer to the User Manual for specific procedures.

Maintenance Features

  • Cleaning: Do not use ethanol or other corrosive liquids to clean the device.
  • Troubleshooting (Common Issues):
    • Poor Printing Performance: Check if the printer door is fully closed, ensure correct paper roll orientation and installation. Refer to the User Manual for further printer setup options.
    • No Display: Check if the battery is correctly fitted (if supplied), verify battery charge status via the LED indicator, and ensure power supply and all connections are secure. Confirm the power is connected to a wall socket if operating on external power.
    • Poor Battery Life: Charge the battery for 2 to 4 hours until the LED turns Green. Check the battery charge indicator on the LCD. Refer to the User Manual for expected battery life.
    • Card Read Error:
      • Magnetic Stripe: Ensure correct orientation (magnetic stripe downward, facing LCD) and swipe at a steady speed.
      • Chip Card: Ensure correct insertion orientation.
      • Contactless: Ensure the card is placed within 0 to 4cm of the terminal display. Repeat the test with another card of the same type.
  • Storage: Keep the shipping carton and packing materials for future packing or moving of the terminal.
  • Disposal: Dispose of any part in an environmentally sound manner and in accordance with local laws.

Safety Instructions

  • Do not use the terminal if it is tampered with or shows signs of tampering.
  • Do not disassemble, service, or repair any part of the terminal.
  • Avoid using the terminal in wet environments to prevent electrical shock.
  • Use only the supplied power adapter with an electrical outlet of the correct rating.
  • Use only the battery supplied or specified by AMP.
  • Do not expose the device to excessive heat or cold. Refer to device specifications for more information.
  • This product is a hand-held device, not intended for body contact.
  • The device complies with FCC rules, including specific absorption rate (SAR) guidelines for RF exposure. SAR tests are conducted at the highest certified power level, and the actual SAR level during operation is typically below the maximum value. For body-worn operation, the terminal meets FCC RF exposure guidelines.
