Question and Answer IconNeed help?

Do you have a question about the Amped Wireless ARTEMIS-EX RE1300M and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Amped Wireless High Power AC1300 Wi-Fi Range Extender, model RE1300M, is designed to expand the coverage of an existing Wi-Fi network, eliminating dead zones and improving signal strength throughout a home or office. It acts as a bridge, receiving a signal from the primary Wi-Fi router and re-broadcasting it to extend the range.

Function Description

The core function of the RE1300M is to extend the reach of a Wi-Fi network. It operates on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency bands, supporting the AC1300 standard for faster wireless speeds. By strategically placing the extender between the main Wi-Fi router and areas with weak or no signal (dead zones), users can achieve seamless wireless connectivity across a larger area. The device is equipped with two external antennas to enhance signal reception and transmission.

Usage Features

The RE1300M offers a user-friendly setup process, primarily guided by a web-based Setup Wizard.

  • Optimal Placement Guidance: A crucial aspect of effective range extension is proper placement. The device includes a Signal Strength LED on its front panel, which illuminates green for excellent signal (70-100%), yellow for moderate (60-69%), and red for poor (59% and below). This visual indicator helps users find the best location for the extender, ensuring it receives a strong signal from the main router while effectively covering dead zones. The recommended signal strength from the router is greater than 70%.

  • Setup Wizard: The initial configuration is performed through a web browser by connecting a computer or tablet to the extender's temporary Wi-Fi network (Amped_ArtemisEX_2.4 or Amped_ArtemisEX_5.0). The Setup Wizard guides users through scanning for available home networks, selecting the desired 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks to extend, and entering their security keys if applicable.

  • Extended Network Configuration: Users can choose to "Clone" the settings from their home network, which automatically copies the SSID and security key, appending "_RE" to the extended network's SSID. Alternatively, they can manually configure new SSIDs and security keys for the extended networks.

  • Dashboard: After setup, the web-based Dashboard provides a real-time overview of the extender's status, including connection status, SSID, security key, and signal strength for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz connections.

  • BoostBand™ Technology: This feature is designed to optimize network performance by streamlining dual-band network traffic through a single Wi-Fi frequency band between the router and the range extender. This can lead to increased overall speed and efficiency of the extended network.

  • Wireless Access Scheduling: Users can control when their Wi-Fi is active or inactive, allowing for scheduled on/off times for the extended network.

  • User Access Control: This feature enables restriction of network access to specific users, enhancing network security and management.

  • Wireless Coverage Control: The range extender allows users to adjust the distance of their wireless network, providing flexibility in tailoring coverage to specific needs.

  • Wired Port Routing: The extender automatically designates the internet route for devices connected to its wired ports. This means wired devices can access the internet through either the 2.4GHz or 5GHz home network, with the extender automatically selecting an active route. Users can also manually adjust these settings if desired.

  • USB Storage Sharing: The RE1300M includes a USB 3.0 port, allowing users to connect a USB storage device and share its contents across the extended network. This provides convenient network-attached storage capabilities.

  • Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS): For compatible wireless adapters, the extender supports WPS one-touch setup, simplifying the connection process by pressing a button on both the extender and the adapter.

  • LED Lights On/Off: A physical button on the extender allows users to turn the front panel LED indicators on or off, which can be useful for reducing light pollution in certain environments.

  • Power On/Off Button: A dedicated button allows for quick power cycling of the range extender.

Maintenance Features

The RE1300M incorporates several features to ensure its ongoing performance and ease of management.

  • System Clock Setting: To ensure accurate time stamps for access schedules and logs, the system clock can be synchronized with the user's computer or the internet.

  • Firmware Updates: The Setup Wizard will notify users if a newer firmware version is available, and it is recommended to update the extender to benefit from the latest improvements and security patches.

  • Reset to Default Settings: There are two ways to reset the extender to its factory default settings:

    • Through the web menu: A software option within the Management section allows for a full reset.
    • Physical Reset Button: A small, recessed button on the back panel can be held down for 5-10 seconds to perform a hard reset. Pressing it for less than 5 seconds will simply reboot the device while retaining existing settings. This is particularly useful if a user forgets their web menu login password.
  • Autoloading Web Menu (Auto-DNS): If the range extender loses its connection to the home network, the web menu will automatically load in the user's browser, redirecting all web address entries to the Dashboard. This feature is designed to help users quickly reconfigure the extender in case of a disconnection and can be disabled if not desired.

  • Troubleshooting Support: The manual provides comprehensive troubleshooting tips for common issues such as failing to open the web menu, loss of internet access through the extender, or inability to find the home network during scanning. It also highlights potential causes like power outages or router channel changes that might affect connectivity. Amped Wireless also offers dedicated phone and email support for further assistance.

  • Login and Password for Web Menu: For enhanced security, users can set a login and password to protect access to the extender's web-based management interface. This is separate from the Wi-Fi network key.
