Component Disorder Corrective Action
Nozzle Wrong nozzle Replace with type nozzle recommended by the manufacturer
(
Tyco Fire Protection Products).
Valve body or barrel abraded, Replace valve or barrel if in any way damaged or deformed.
corroded, cracked, or dented
O
perating handle broken, or deformed Replace handle.
Operating handle loose Adjust securement screw by tightening.
Operating handle binding or immovable See ‘’Leaking Nozzle’’ below.
Leaking nozzle, plugged tip and/or Disassemble and clean deposits from internal passages and
discharge passage parts with small, stiff bristle brush; examine gaskets and O-rings
and replace if cut, checked, deformed, stiff, brittle, or worn.
Reassemble nozzle and pressure test at 220 psi (15.17 bar).
Threads nicked, worn or cross-threaded Replace thread bearing component (barrel, valve body or
adaptor).
Gasket or O-ring brittle, compression Replace, lubricating gasket or O-ring lightly with a good heat
set, cracked, cut, or missing resistant grease before insertion.
Hose Reel Dents or abrasions Repair affected area of item, clean and repaint, using a primer and
finish coat; replace individual item if damage interferes with opera-
tion.
Rust spots, pits, corrosion deposits, Clean corroded areas with a wire brush (replace any item
or peeling paint weakened by corrosion penetration) and repaint, using a primer
and finish coat.
Reel binding or stiff operating Oil inlet body bearings and grease pinion gear.
Reel immovable Disassemble inlet swing joint assembly(ies), clean deposits from
internal passages with a stiff brass or bristle brush, replace gas-
kets, or O-rings if cut, checked, deformed, brittle, or worn; and
reassemble, oiling inlet body bearing and greasing pinion gear.
Pressure leakage See ‘’Reel Immovable’ above if leakage is discovered at a fitting
other than the hose to reel connection.
Pneumatic Actuation Corroded, jammed, or broken Clean, repair to free movement; or replace.
System puncture lever
Dull, bent, or damaged puncture pin Replace pin, making certain safety retaining ring is secure in
groove near tip.
Corroded, nicked, cross-threaded, Remove receiver, destroy threads, discard and replace.
or worn cartridge receiver threads
Obstructed cartridge receiver Clear vent with stiff unbreakable probe of lesser diameter then
pressure vent hole vent hole.
Wrong cartridge Replace cartridge with type specified by Tyco Fire Protection
Products only. (Refer to applicable parts list.)
Gas cartridge corroded, dented, or Depressurize (disconnect high pressure line to cylinder(s) and
abraded; or gas cartridge threads push actuator lever to safely vent pressure) and discard after
corroded, nicked, cross-threaded, destroying internal and external threads to prevent reuse.
or worn
Scored, cut, or corroded gas cartridge Depressurize (disconnect high pressure line to cylinder(s) and
seal disc; or illegible identification, push actuator lever to safely vent pressure) and replace with
or weight markings factory filled and sealed cartridge. Install safety shipping cap on
empty cartridge and return to supplier for refill.
Wrong cartridge seal used in Remove cartridge and replace with factory filled and sealed
previous recharge cartridge. Return replaced cartridge to supplier.
Corroded, jammed, cracked, broken, or Disassemble, clean, replace affected parts and conduct an
leaking nitrogen cylinder valve actuator operational test (refer to Maintenance Section); or replace.
Obstructed pneumatic valve actuator Clear vent with stiff unbreakable probe of lesser diameter than
piston downstroke pressure relief vent vent hole.
