4 Troubleshooting
4.1 Communications
The first thing that must be verified at the card reader is the RS-485 communications. If the reader is unable
the communicate to the controller, most other functions will not work. Communications should be verified by
observing the LED's on the host controller and/or verifying voltages on the RS-485 line. See Apollo's General
Troubleshooting guide for more information.
In case of failure of the device to establish communication or unexpected operation, the configuration
memory can be cleared so that a completely new configuration can be loaded.
To clear configuration memory for AIM-1/2SL:
1. Disconnect the power from the AIM-1/2SL
2. Using a short piece of wire, short across the C4 component on the circuit board, placing an end of the wire
on the contact at each end of the component. Refer to the following figure for the exact location of the
component.
Figure 4.1 AIM-1/2SL C4 Component Location.
Short across the two ends of the component to clear
the configuration memory. Power must be disconnected while shorting.
3. Hold the short for 5-10 seconds. Remove the short
4. Reapply power to the AIM-1/2SL and establish communication with the controller. A new configuration will
be downloaded.
