Overview

The Aqualisa ilux Digital is a sophisticated shower and bath control system designed to offer a personalized and convenient bathing experience. This digital system allows users to precisely control temperature and flow, with options for both manual and pre-set operations, and even remote control functionality. The ilux Digital system is available in configurations for showers, baths, and combined shower and bath units with diverters.

Function Description

The core function of the Aqualisa ilux Digital system is to provide precise, digitally controlled water delivery for showering and bathing. It allows users to set their preferred water temperature and flow rate, ensuring a consistent and comfortable experience every time. The system utilizes a digital mixing valve that blends hot and cold water to the exact desired temperature, eliminating the fluctuations often associated with traditional manual mixers.

For showers, the system offers both manual and pre-set operation modes. In manual mode, users can adjust temperature and flow in real-time. Pre-set mode allows users to save their preferred settings (temperature and flow rate) to dedicated buttons, enabling a quick start to their ideal shower with a single press. Some models also include a "Pause" function, which temporarily stops the water flow without losing the current settings, useful for tasks like lathering or shaving.

For baths, the ilux Digital system provides similar manual and pre-set control over temperature and flow. A key feature for bath units is the ability to pre-set not only temperature and flow but also the bath fill depth. This ensures the bath fills to the desired level and temperature automatically. To prevent accidental overfilling, the pre-set buttons are temporarily disabled for 1 minute after a bath has been filled using this function, though manual operation remains possible. Bath units also include a "Hot Top Up" feature, which provides a minute of maximum temperature at minimum flow of blended water, ideal for warming up the bath during use.

Diverter models extend functionality by allowing users to switch between different outlets, such as a main shower head and a hand-held shower, or a bath filler and a shower. This is typically achieved by pressing and holding the Start/Stop button for a short duration.

The system also incorporates a child safety lock feature for bath controls, which disables the bath controls to prevent accidental operation by children. This feature is activated and deactivated by simultaneously pressing and holding two specific lock/unlock buttons for 3 seconds.

Usage Features

The ilux Digital system is designed for intuitive and user-friendly operation.

  • Controller Key: The main controller features a Start/Stop button, rotary temperature control, and rotary flow control. Pre-set buttons are also prominently displayed for quick access to saved settings. For diverter models, the Start/Stop button also doubles as the divert control. Bath controllers include child safety lock/unlock buttons.
  • Manual Operation:
    • Start/Stop: Pressing the Start/Stop button initiates or ends water flow.
    • Temperature Control: Rotating the temperature control dial adjusts the water temperature. LEDs illuminate to indicate the selected temperature, with red or blue LEDs flashing during adjustment and white LEDs remaining solid.
    • Flow Control: Rotating the flow control dial adjusts the water flow rate. LEDs illuminate to indicate the flow rate, with more lights for greater flow and fewer for lesser flow. A green LED indicates the 'ECO' flow rate setting.
    • Pause Function (Shower): Pressing the Pause button temporarily stops the shower. The LEDs blink in pause mode. Pressing it again resumes showering. The shower will automatically turn off if not resumed within 1 minute.
    • Diverter Operation (Diverter Models): While showering or bathing, pressing and holding the Start/Stop button for 1.5 seconds diverts the water to the alternative outlet. Repeating this action reverts to the previous outlet.
  • Pre-set Operation:
    • Storing Pre-sets: To store a pre-set, first manually set the desired temperature and flow rate (and outlet for diverter models, or fill depth for bath models). Then, press and hold the desired pre-set button for 3 seconds. The button will remain constantly lit to confirm the settings have been accepted.
    • Using Pre-sets: Simply press the desired pre-set button to start the shower or bath with the pre-defined settings.
    • Overriding Pre-sets: Temperature and flow settings can be adjusted manually even when operating in pre-set mode. The pause feature also remains active.
  • Remote Control: A fully mobile, water-resistant remote control allows operation from up to 10m away from the main digital control unit.
    • Manual Operation (Remote): Press the Start/Stop button on the remote to start the shower or bath in manual mode, using the last used flow and temperature settings. For diverter models, pressing and holding the Start/Stop button on the remote switches between outlets.
    • Pre-set Operation (Remote): Pressing a desired pre-set button on the remote starts the shower or bath with the pre-set flow, temperature, and outlet (if applicable).
    • Hot Top Up (Bath Remote): During bathing, pressing the Hot Top Up button provides a 1-minute burst of maximum temperature at minimum flow.
    • Low Battery Indicator: When the remote battery is low, the green 'ECO' flow setting LED on the main shower/bath control will glow red.
  • Child Safety Lock (Bath): To activate, press and hold both Lock/Unlock buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds after bath fill is complete. The padlock icon button will illuminate. To unlock, repeat the action.

Maintenance Features

Maintaining the Aqualisa ilux Digital system is straightforward, focusing primarily on cleaning and remote control battery replacement.

  • Cleaning: The product should be cleaned using only a soft cloth and washing-up liquid. Abrasive cleaners should be avoided to prevent damage to the finish.
  • Shower Head Descaling: For hard water areas, ilux Digital shower heads feature a 'clear flow' system. Scale build-up can be broken down by gently rubbing the flexible tips of the jets during use. This should be done weekly to maintain spray pattern and performance, and to protect internal seals. If chemical descaling becomes necessary, the shower head can be removed from the hose and soaked in a mild proprietary descalent.
  • Remote Control Battery Change:
    1. Using a small posidrive screwdriver, carefully undo the 3 fixing screws and remove the battery cover.
    2. Remove the old battery and wait for 2 minutes to discharge the capacitors.
    3. Replace with a new CR2032 battery (available from Aqualisa customer service).
    4. Ensure the battery seal is correctly positioned to create a watertight seal, then replace the battery cover and secure it with the fixing screws. Incorrect fitting of the battery seal will compromise the remote control's waterproof integrity and void the warranty for related issues.

The ilux Digital system is designed for longevity and reliable performance with proper care and adherence to the recommended maintenance procedures.
