Overview

This document is an owner's manual for the AquaTools High Rate Sand Filter System, designed for above-ground swimming pools. It provides comprehensive information on installation, operation, maintenance, and parts for the filter system and its associated pumps.

Function Description:

The AquaTools High Rate Sand Filter System is designed to circulate and filter water in above-ground swimming pools, offering quiet, efficient performance and durability. The system uses #20 Silica sand with a screen mesh of .45 to .55mm as the filter media. The multi-port valve allows for various operational modes including FILTER (normal filtration and vacuuming), BACKWASH (reverses flow for cleaning), RINSE (initial startup cleaning and sand bed leveling after backwash), WASTE (lowers pool level or drains pool), RECIRCULATE (circulates pool water bypassing the filter), and CLOSED (shuts off all flow). The system is designed to be installed at least 10 feet from the inside wall of the pool, providing weather and freezing protection, adequate space and lighting for maintenance, and proper drainage. It should be on a reasonably level, solid, rigid, and vibration-free surface, as close to the pool as possible to reduce line loss. The trap suction inlet must always be below pool water level to allow the pump to prime.

Usage Features:

  • Safety First: Emphasizes reading and following all safety instructions, including warnings about hazardous pressure, suction, and voltage.
  • GFCI Protection: Requires connection to a grounding type receptacle protected by a Ground-Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) to prevent electrical shock.
  • No Compressed Air: Explicitly warns against testing the filter with compressed air due to explosion risk.
  • Water Temperature Limit: Do not operate the filter at water temperatures above 95°F (35°C).
  • Pressure Limit: Never operate the filter system at more than 50 PSI (345 kPa).
  • Proper Sand Loading: Instructions for filling the tank with water first to support laterals and prevent breakage, then adding sand using a sand shield to keep the collector hub assembly clean.
