OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
5. CHUTE
a. Th e c hut e is desi gned so that it can be ro-
tat ed throu gh an angle of 240 degree s by mean s of
th e c hut e co ntrol c rank mounted on th e handle bar.
By turnin g th e ha ndl e of th e co ntrol rod, the blown
snow
can be dir ec ted e ither to the ri g ht or le ft or
stra ig ht ahead. An adjus tabl e de fl e ctor on th e
ch ut e ca n be mov ed up or down to co ntr ol th e
hei g ht and distanc e th e s now will be blown.

Slow

6. SHEAR BOLT REPLACEMENT
Occasiona ll y a s mall objec t may en ter the rotor
and b ecome jammed in th e blad es. When thi s
occurs the sh ea r bo lt s, l oca t ed on th e shaf t on
whi ch th e rotor is mounted, w ill br eak and a ll ow
th e rotor to turn fr ee ly on th e shaft. Be for e
plowing
ca n be co ntinued, this sh ea r bolt mu st be
r e
plac ed. See fi g ur e 2. USE ONLY AR IE NS SHEAR
BOLTS. USE OF OTHER TYPES OF BOLTS M AY
RESULT IN SEVERE DAMAGE TO MA CHINE.
STOP THE ENGINE BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO
REMOVE
OBS TRU CT I ONS OR REPLA CE SHEAR
BOLTS.

Each time a shear bolt is replaced,
the rakes must be g reased and
turn ed on th e s haft by hand sever al
times to insure they do not bind.
7. LUBRICATION

b. Drain and refill th e snow r otor gear case
eve ry 25 hou rs of ope ra ti on. To drain a nd refill,
remov e drain plug and a ll ow oil to dra in. Tip
machine back on handle bars. (Be sure clutch is
l ocked in th e UP position .) Remove filler p lu g.
Po
ur the Ariens gea r lube SAE MP -90 into fill er
hol e until it starts to run out of drain hole (ap-
proxim ately 5 oun ces). Replac e dra in and filler
plu g.

8. S NO -THRO OPERATING HINTS
a. When operat in g th e Sno-Thro in we t snow,
occasiona ll y a suff i cient amo unt of snow m ay s ti ck

ven t this, it is su gges ted that th e in side of the
c hut e be coated with a li g ht l ayer of "pas t e" or
"spray" wax.

9. S NO -THRO STOR AGE SUGGESTIONS
a. Remove sh ear bo lt s and grease the rake
shaft . Turn rakes on shaf t severa l tim es by hand
and
rep l ace sh ea r bolts.
b. Clean machine thoroughly. Repa int pa int as
required.
c. C he ck a ll parts for excess i ve wear. Order
r e pl acement parts now to avo id delay next wi nter.
