Questions and Answers

Overview

This document provides a comprehensive guide for the Ariston dishwasher, covering its functions, technical specifications, usage, and maintenance.

Product Description and Features

The Ariston dishwasher is designed for efficient and convenient dishwashing. Its main components include an upper rack (1) with foldable flaps (2) and a height adjuster (3), a lower rack (5), upper (7) and lower (4) spray arms, a cutlery basket (6), a filter assembly (8), a salt reservoir (9), detergent and rinse aid dispensers (10), a rating plate (11), and a control panel (12).

The control panel features an On-Off/Reset button (1) with an indicator light, a Program selection button (2) with an indicator light, a Half Load button (3) with an indicator light, a Salt refill indicator light (4), a Rinse Aid refill indicator light (5), Program indicator lights (6), a Delay indicator light (7), a Delay button (8) with an indicator light, a Tablet (Tab) button (9) with an indicator light, and a Start/Pause button (10) with an indicator light/Drain out function.

First Time Use and Settings

Before first use, it is crucial to remove stoppers and elastic elements from the racks. The dishwasher requires regenerating salt to prevent limescale. The salt reservoir (9) is located in the lower part of the dishwasher and should be filled when the SALT REFILL indicator light (4) is lit. To fill, remove the lower rack, unscrew the cap, and fill with approximately 1 kg of salt using the provided funnel. Ensure the cap is screwed on tightly to prevent detergent from entering.

Water hardness must be set to ensure optimal performance of the water softener. The factory setting is for average (3) water hardness. To adjust, switch the appliance on and off, then hold the START/PAUSE button (10) for 5 seconds until a beep is heard. Switch it on again, and the program indicator light (6) for the current level will flash. Use the Program selection button (2) to select the desired hardness level according to the Water Hardness Table:

  • Level 1 (Soft): 0-6 °dH / 0-10 °fH
  • Level 2 (Medium): 7-11 °dH / 11-20 °fH
  • Level 3 (Average): 12-17 °dH / 21-30 °fH
  • Level 4 (Hard): 17-34 °dH / 31-60 °fH
  • Level 5 (Very hard): 35-50 °dH / 61-90 °fH After setting, switch the appliance off. It is recommended to run a program without loading after this procedure.

The rinse aid dispenser (10) aids in drying. It should be filled when the RINSE AID REFILL indicator light (5) is lit. Open dispenser B by pressing and pulling up the tab, carefully introduce rinse aid up to the maximum (110 ml) notch, and close the lid. Never pour rinse aid directly into the tub. The dosage of rinse aid can be adjusted if drying results are unsatisfactory. To adjust, switch the dishwasher on and off, press START/PAUSE three times (a beep will be heard), switch it on again, and the program indicator light (6) for the current level will flash. Use the Program selection button (2) to select the desired rinse aid quantity. Level 1 (ECO) supplies no rinse aid. The factory setting is for a medium level. If bluish streaks appear, set a lower number (2-3); if water drops or limescale marks appear, set a higher number (4-5).

Detergent is introduced into dispenser B. For pre-washing, place detergent directly inside the tub. Ensure detergent residues are removed from the edges of the dispenser before closing the cover. The dispenser opens automatically during the program. For all-in-one detergents, using the TABLET button (9) is recommended for optimal washing and drying.

Programs Table and Description

The dishwasher offers several programs:

  • Eco (1): 50°C, 2:40 duration, 12 litres water, 0.86 kWh energy. Standard program for normally soiled crockery, most efficient in terms of combined energy and water consumption. Adheres to AS/NZS 2007.
  • Intensive (2): 65°C, 2:30 duration, 16.5 litres water, 1.65 kWh energy. Recommended for heavily soiled crockery, especially pans and saucepans (not for delicate items).
  • Everyday (3): 55°C, 2:00 duration, 16 litres water, 1.35 kWh energy. Ensures optimal cleaning performance in shorter time.
  • Express 30′ (4): 50°C, 0:30 duration, 8.5 litres water, 0.50 kWh energy. For lightly-soiled dishes with no dried food residues (ideal for 2 place settings).
  • Soak (5): 0:10 duration, 4 litres water, 0.01 kWh energy. For crockery to be washed later; no detergent needed.

Program durations are estimates and may vary based on factors like water temperature and pressure, room temperature, detergent amount, load type, load balancing, and sensor calibration. Standby consumption is 5 W (left-on mode) and 0.5 W (off mode).

Options and Functions

  • Half Load (3): Saves water, electricity, and detergent for smaller loads. Select a program, then press the HALF LOAD button. Remember to halve the detergent amount.
  • Delay (8): Delays program start by 2, 4, or 8 hours. After selecting a program and options, press the DELAY button repeatedly to choose the desired delay. The countdown begins when START/PAUSE is pressed. Cannot be set once a program has started.
  • Tablet (9): Optimizes performance for combined tablet detergents (rinse aid, salt, and detergent in one). Should be off for powder or liquid detergents.
  • Drain Out (10): Stops and cancels the active cycle, draining water from the dishwasher. Activated by a long press of the START/PAUSE button.

If an option is incompatible with the selected program, its LED will flash rapidly 3 times, and a beep will sound, indicating it will not be enabled.

Daily Use

  1. Check Water Connection: Ensure the dishwasher is connected and the tap is open.
  2. Switch On: Press the ON/OFF button.
  3. Load Racks: Arrange crockery as per loading instructions.
  4. Fill Detergent Dispenser: Add detergent to dispenser B.
  5. Choose Program and Customise Cycle: Select program with Program selection button (2) and desired options.
  6. Start: Press START/PAUSE button (10).
  7. End of Wash Cycle: Indicated by beeps and flashing wash cycle indicator. Open door, switch off, and wait a few minutes before unloading.

The machine switches off automatically during extended inactivity to minimize electricity consumption. If crockery is lightly soiled or pre-rinsed, reduce detergent amount.

Modifying a Running Program: If a wrong program was selected, press and hold ON/OFF to switch off. Switch on again, select new program and options, then press START/PAUSE. Adding Extra Crockery: Open the door, place crockery inside, close the door, and press START/PAUSE. The cycle will resume from where it was interrupted. Accidental Interruptions: If the door is opened or power is cut, the cycle stops. Close the door or restore power, then press START/PAUSE to resume.

Advice and Tips

  • Remove food residues from crockery before loading. Pre-rinsing under running water is not necessary.
  • Arrange crockery firmly, with openings facing downwards.
  • Lids, handles, trays, and frying pans should not obstruct spray arm rotation.
  • Place small items in the cutlery basket.
  • Heavily soiled dishes and pans should be in the lower basket for stronger water sprays.
  • Ensure spray arms rotate freely after loading.

Hygiene: Run a high-temperature program at least once a month with a teaspoon of detergent and no load to clean the appliance and prevent odors/sediment.

Unsuitable Crockery: Avoid wooden crockery/cutlery, delicate decorated glasses, artistic handicraft, antique crockery, synthetic materials not withstanding high temperatures, copper/tin crockery, and crockery soiled with ash, wax, lubricating grease, or ink. Glass decorations and aluminum/silver pieces may change color or fade. Some glass types may become opaque after multiple washes.

Damage to Glass and Crockery: Use only dishwasher-safe glasses and porcelain. Use a delicate detergent. Collect glasses and cutlery immediately after the wash cycle.

Loading the Racks

Upper Rack: For delicate and light dishes: glasses, cups, saucers, low salad bowls. Lower Rack: For pots, lids, plates, salad bowls, cutlery. Large plates and lids should be placed at the sides to avoid spray arm interference. Tip-up supports can be used vertically for plates or horizontally for pans/salad bowls.

Adjusting Upper Rack Height: The upper rack height can be adjusted to accommodate bulky crockery in the lower basket or create more space for tip-up supports. The upper rack is equipped with a height adjuster (3). To raise, simply lift the rack sides without pressing levers. To lower, press levers A at the sides and move the basket downwards. Do not adjust when loaded, and never raise/lower on one side only.

Cutlery Basket (6): Equipped with top grilles for improved arrangement. Position only at the front of the lower rack. Knives and sharp utensils should be placed points downwards in the cutlery basket or horizontally in the upper rack's tip-up compartments.

Foldable Flaps with Adjustable Position: Side foldable flaps can be positioned at three heights to optimize crockery arrangement. Wine glasses can be placed safely by inserting stems into slots. Incline flaps more for optimum drying. To change inclination, pull up the flap, slide it slightly, and reposition.

Care and Maintenance

Cleaning the Filter Assembly (8): Regularly clean the filter assembly to prevent clogging and ensure proper wastewater flow. The assembly consists of three filters (cylindrical filter A, cup filter B, stainless-steel plate filter C).

  1. Turn cylindrical filter A anti-clockwise and pull it out.
  2. Remove cup filter B by pressing side flaps.
  3. Slide out stainless-steel plate filter C.
  4. Inspect the trap and remove food residues. Never remove the wash-cycle pump protection (black detail). After cleaning, replace the filters correctly.

Cleaning the Spray Arms (4, 7): Food residue can encrust and block spray arm holes. Check and clean arms periodically with a small non-metallic brush. To remove the upper spray arm, turn the plastic locking ring anti-clockwise. Replace with the side having more holes facing upwards. The lower spray arm can be removed by pulling it upwards.

Cleaning the Water Inlet Hose: If water hoses are new or unused for extended periods, let water run until clear and free of impurities before connecting to prevent blockages and damage.

Troubleshooting

This section provides solutions for common issues:

  • Dishwasher won't start/respond: Check if plugged in, power outage, door closed properly, or needs reset (switch off/on, reset program).
  • Dishwasher won't drain: Check for bent drain hose, blocked sink drain pipe, or clogged filter.
  • Excessive noise: Dishes rattling (rearrange crockery), excessive foam (incorrect detergent dosage/type, reset with DRAIN button, run program without detergent).
  • Dishes not clean: Crockery not arranged properly (obstructing spray arms), wash cycle too gentle, excessive foam, rinse aid compartment cap not shut, soiled/clogged filter, no salt.
