Overview

The Ashton BA20 is a bass amplifier designed in Australia, offering a compact yet powerful solution for bass players. It is built with a focus on value and utilizes high-quality materials, reflecting Ashton's commitment to delivering reliable musical instruments and equipment.

Function Description:

The BA20 Bass Amplifier serves as an amplification system for bass guitars, allowing musicians to project their instrument's sound with clarity and control. It features both high and low inputs, accommodating different types of bass pickups and playing styles. The amplifier provides comprehensive tone shaping capabilities through a 3-band equalizer (bass, middle, treble) and a presence control, enabling users to fine-tune their sound. A volume control manages the overall output level. For private practice, the BA20 includes a headphone output, allowing musicians to play without disturbing others. Additionally, it features an 1/8" stereo input specifically designed for connecting external audio devices like iPods or MP3 players, enabling users to play along with backing tracks or practice materials.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Output: 20W RMS (Root Mean Square)
  • Speaker: 8” high-performance speaker
  • Inputs: Hi and low inputs for bass guitar, 1/8" stereo iPod® MP3 player input
  • Controls: Presence control, Volume control, 3-band EQ (bass, middle, treble)
  • Outputs: Headphone output
  • Dimensions: 36cm x 28cm x 36cm

Usage Features:

The BA20 is designed for ease of use and versatility.

  • Inputs (1 & 2): The "Hi" input (1) is a ¼" jack suitable for passive bass instruments, while the "Low" input (2) is a ¼" jack for active bass instruments.
  • Volume Control (3): This knob adjusts the overall volume of the amplifier.
  • Bass Control (4): Controls the amount of low frequency in the output sound.
  • Middle Control (5): Controls the amount of middle frequency in the output sound.
  • Treble Control (6): Controls the amount of high frequency in the output sound.
  • Presence Control (7): This control adjusts the presence (depth) of the output sound, adding clarity or warmth as desired.
  • MP3 Input (8): A general AUX input for MP3 players. To connect an MP3 player, a 1/8" stereo to 1/8" stereo cable is required (e.g., Ashton SC88 Cable). The MP3 input can also be used for other AUX devices like CD players. When plugging an MP3 player into the amplifier, ensure the volume is turned to the minimum. Once plugged in, adjust the volume on the MP3 player accordingly to protect both the amplifier and the user's ears. It's important to note that the volume controls on the MP3 player unit, not the front panel controls on the BA20, operate the bass guitar input/output signal.
  • Phones Output (9): This input is for headphone operation, allowing for silent practice.
  • Power Switch (10): Turns the amplifier on and off.

Maintenance Features & Safety Information:

The manual emphasizes several safety precautions to ensure the longevity of the device and the safety of the user.

  • Electrical Safety:
    • Always read and follow all safety instructions and explanations.
    • The product must be earthed. In the unlikely event of a breakdown or grounding, a path of least resistance for electric current is provided to reduce the risk of electric shock. The product is equipped with a cord having an equipment-grounding conductor and a grounding plug. This plug must be connected to an appropriate outlet that is properly installed and earthed in accordance with all local codes and ordinances.
    • DANGER: Improper connection of the equipment-grounding conductor can result in a risk of electric shock. Consult a qualified electrician or service professional if unsure about proper grounding. Do not modify the plug provided; if it does not fit the outlet, have a proper outlet installed by a qualified technician.
  • Environmental Considerations:
    • Do not use this product near water (e.g., bathtub, sink, wet basement, swimming pool).
    • Do not block ventilation openings. Install according to manufacturer's instructions.
    • Do not install near heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other products that produce heat.
    • The product should be located away from heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, or other products that produce heat.
    • The product should be located at a level that provides adequate ventilation.
  • Power Supply:
    • The product should be connected to a power supply only of the type described in the operating instructions or as marked on the product.
    • The power-supply cord should be unplugged from the outlet when left unused for a long period of time. When unplugging the power supply cord, do not pull on the cord but grasp the plug.
  • Handling and Care:
    • Care should be taken so that objects do not fall and liquids are not spilled into the enclosure through any openings.
    • The product should only be serviced by qualified service personnel when:
      • The power-supply cord or the plug has been damaged.
      • Objects have fallen on, or liquid has been spilled into the product.

    • WARNING! Do not place objects on products, the power cord, or place it in a position where anyone could trip over, walk on, or roll anything over it. Do not allow any part of the product to rest on or be installed over power cords of any type. Improper installations of this type create the possibility of fire and general safety hazard.
  • Internal Components:
    • CAUTION! RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK. DO NOT OPEN.
    • To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not remove the cover (or back). No user-serviceable parts inside. Refer servicing to qualified service personnel.
    • The lightning flash with arrowhead symbol, within an equilateral triangle, is intended to alert the user to the presence of uninsulated dangerous voltage within the product's enclosure that may be of sufficient magnitude to constitute a risk of electric shock to persons.
    • The exclamation mark within an equilateral triangle is intended to alert the user to the presence of important operating and maintenance (servicing) instructions in the literature accompanying the appliance.
  • Important Note: To reduce the risk related to the correct and normal use of the instrument, all Ashton products are accurately tested in a safety laboratory. Do not modify or present to the safety standard and the correct instrument operativeness could be compromised, and as a further consequence the warranty will be invalidated.
