4.1 RAIDcongurations
The motherboard comes with the Intel
®
Rapid Storage Technology that supports RAID 0,
RAID1,RAID5andRAID10conguration.
If you want to install a Windows
®
operating system to a hard disk drive included in a RAID
set,youhavetocreateaRAIDdriverdiskandloadtheRAIDdriverduringOSinstallation.
Refer to section 4.2CreatingaRAIDdriverdiskfordetails.
4.1.1 RAIDdenitions
RAID0(Datastriping) optimizes two identical hard disk drives to read and write data in
parallel,interleavedstacks.Twoharddisksperformthesameworkasasingledrivebutata
sustained data transfer rate, double that of a single disk alone, thus improving data access
andstorage.Useoftwonewidenticalharddiskdrivesisrequiredforthissetup.
RAID1(Datamirroring) copies and maintains an identical image of data from one drive to
aseconddrive.Ifonedrivefails,thediskarraymanagementsoftwaredirectsallapplications

congurationprovidesdataprotectionandincreasesfaulttolerancetotheentiresystem.Use

RAID 5stripesbothdataandparityinformationacrossthreeormoreharddiskdrives.Among
theadvantagesofRAID5congurationincludebetterHDDperformance,faulttolerance,and
higherstoragecapacity.TheRAID5congurationisbestsuitedfortransactionprocessing,

Useaminimumofthreeidenticalharddiskdrivesforthissetup.
RAID 10 is data striping and data mirroring combined without parity (redundancy data) having

RAID0andRAID1congurations.Usefournewharddiskdrivesoruseanexistingdrive
