As you type on the keyboard, the symbols cor-
responding
to the keys you press will appear on
the screen. For example, press the A key (located
in the middle row of alphabet keys, on the left
side) and a letter A will be displayed. (You'll
also hear a small beep.)

The location of the cursor on the screen shows
you where the next character you type will
appear. (A character is any letter, number, sym-
bol, or space you type into the computer.) The
cursor started
at the beginning of the line. When
you pressed the A key, an A was displayed at the
beginning of the line and the cursor moved one
space
to the right. If the cursor Had been in the
center of the screen, ttle A would have
appeared there instead.
