Overview

This document provides assembly instructions for the Portland Headboard, a component of Atlantic Furniture beds. It details the steps for assembling the headboard itself and for attaching it to either a wood bed frame or a metal bed frame. The instructions cover bed sizes from Twin to Full.

Function Description:

The Portland Headboard serves as the upper decorative and structural element of a bed. It is designed to be assembled and then attached to either a compatible Atlantic Furniture wood bed frame or a metal bed frame. The headboard provides a finished look to the bed and can be integrated with various bed configurations, including those with storage drawers, trundle beds, or mattresses only.

Important Technical Specifications:

The headboard assembly requires several specific hardware components:

  • Headboard Panel: 1 PC
  • Left Leg: 1 PC
  • Right Leg: 1 PC
  • Spacer Block: 2 PCS
  • Packing Stick: 2 PCS (discarded after initial use)

Hardware for headboard assembly:

  • Wooden dowel (A): 4 pcs
  • Wood screw (D): 4 pcs
  • JCB M6 X 70mm (B): 4 pcs
  • Barrel nut (C): 4 pcs
  • Allen wrench (H): 1 pc (for tightening JCB M6 X 70mm bolts)

Hardware for attaching to a metal bed frame (supplied with the wood headboard):

  • JCB M6 X 25mm (E): 4 pcs
  • Flat washer (F): 4 pcs
  • Split washer (G): 4 pcs
  • Allen wrench (H): 1 pc (for tightening JCB M6 X 25mm bolts)

The instructions explicitly state that spare hardware is included in case damage occurs during assembly. The metal bed frame and its assembly instructions/hardware are sold separately.

Usage Features:

Headboard Assembly (Steps 1 & 2):

  1. Step 1: Remove the packing stick (5) from the headboard panel (1) and discard it. Insert wooden dowels (A) into the locator holes on the spacer blocks (4). Attach the spacer blocks (4) to the legs (2) and (3) using wood screws (D). A Phillips screwdriver (customer supplied) is required for this step.
  2. Step 2: Attach the assembled legs (2) and (3) to the headboard panel (1) using JCB (B) and barrel nuts (C). Tighten these connections with the provided Allen wrench (H).

Integration with Wood Bed Frame (Page 2):

The document illustrates how the headboard integrates with Atlantic Furniture wood bed frames, which can be configured with either an open footrail or a panel footboard.

  • Open Footrail:

    • The open footrail offers a choice of "Tall Legs" or "Short Legs."
    • "Tall Legs" are used for configurations with storage drawers, trundle beds, or mattress-only setups.
    • "Short Legs" are used when a foundation and mattress are present.
    • The side rails can be attached to either the "upper set of pins" or "lower set of pins" on the headboard, allowing for flexibility in bed height or mattress support.
  • Panel Footboard:

    • For panel footboard configurations, the side rails can be attached to either "UPPER PINS" or "LOWER PINS."
    • "UPPER PINS" are used for storage drawers, trundle beds, or mattress-only setups.
    • "LOWER PINS" are used when a foundation and mattress are present.
    • This flexibility ensures compatibility with various bed system components and user preferences for bed height.

Attaching Headboard to Metal Bed Frame (Page 3):

  1. Step 1: Attach the headboard assembly to the metal bed frame using JCB (E), flat washers (F), and split washers (G). Tighten these connections with the provided Allen wrench (H). The instructions specify JCB M6 X 1" bolts and an M4 Allen wrench for this step. This process is for wood headboards purchased to attach to metal bed frames.

Maintenance Features:

The instructions conclude with a "Congratulations!" message and a recommendation for ongoing maintenance: "To ensure lasting safety, we recommend that you periodically check that all screws are tight and all parts are secure." This emphasizes the importance of regular inspection to maintain the structural integrity and safety of the assembled headboard and bed.

The manual is designed for "Adult assembly," indicating that it requires a certain level of dexterity and understanding of assembly processes. It also provides contact information for Atlantic Furniture (service@atlanticfurniture.com or 1-800-955-3726) for assistance with damaged or defective items, highlighting customer support availability.
