Front airbags
Description of front airbags
The airbag system can provide supplemental
protection to properly restrained front seat
occupants.

Your veh icle is equipped with an "Advanced
Airbag System" in compliance with United
States Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard
(FMVSS) 208 as app licab le at the time your
vehicle was manufac tu red. The safe ty belts
for the front seats have "pretensioners" that
help to take slack out of the belt system. The
pretensioners are also activated by the elec-
tronic control unit for the airbag system.
The front safety be lts also have load limiters
to help reduce the forces applied to the body
in a crash.

bags in your vehicle . We urge you to read the

pecially infants and sma ll children, will re-
ceive ser ious injuries and can even be kil-
led by being too close to the airbag when
it inflates .
- Altho ugh the Advanced Airbag Syst em in
your vehicle is designed to tur n off the
front passenger airbag if an infant or a
sma ll child is on the front passenger
seat, nobody can absolutely guarantee
that deployment under these special
conditions is imposs ible in all conceiva-
ble situations that may happen during
the useful life of your vehicle.
- The Advanced Airbag System can dep loy
in acco rdance with the "low risk" option
unde r the U.S. Fede ral Standa rd if a child
t hat is heav ier t han the typical one-year
old child is on the front passenger seat
and the other conditions for airbag de-
ployment are met .
