Daytime running lights (DRL) (USA
models)
The daytime running lights can be t urned on
or
off using t his fu nction . If the function is ac-
tive, the dayt ime running lights are turned on
automat ically when the ign ition is switched
on.
The daytime running lights are activate d
only
whe n the light switc h is at the AUTO* or DRL *
pos ition.
Daytime running lights (Canada models
only)
The daytime running lights are activated only
whe n the light switc h ¢ fig. 43 is eit her at the
0 or the coo: pos ition.
The daytime running lights funct ion can not be
turned
off.
Automatic headlight control*
In the switch pos ition AUTO the automatic
headlight control
is turned on. The low
beams are tu rne d on aut omatically through a
light se nsor as soo n as amb ient brightness
(e.g. when driving into a t unnel) falls below a
value preset at t he factory. Whe n ambient
brightness increases aga in, the low beams are
turned
off aga in automat ically c:> & .
In t he AUTO position the low beams are
switc hed
off automatically when the ignition
is tur ned
off.
Light Sensor Malfunction*
In the event of a light se nsor malfunction, the
drive r is notifie d in the instrument cluste r dis-
play:

For safety reaso ns the low beam s are tur ned
on permanen t ly with the switch in
AUTO*.
However, you can conti nue t o turn the lights
on and
