Driving with an insufficient oil level is like-
ly to cause seve re damage to the eng ine.
@ Tips
- The oil pressure warning display. is
not an indicator of the oil level. Do not
rely on it. Instead , check the oil level in
your engine at regular intervals, pref-
erably each time you refuel, and always
before going on a long trip.
- If you have the impression your engine
consumes excessive amo unts of oil, we
recommend that you consult your au-
thorized Audi dea ler to have the caus e of
you r concern prope rly diag nosed. Keep in
mind that the accurat e measure ment of
oil cons ump tion requires great care and
may ta ke some time. Your autho rized Au-
di dea ler has inst ruct ions about how to
measure oil consumptio n accurately.

Determining oil level
• Park your vehicle so tha t it is horizontally
level.
• While at ope rat ing state tempe rat ure,
briefly let t he engine run at idle and then
shut it off.
.. Wait approx. two minutes.
.. Pull out the oil dipst ick. Wipe off t he oil
dipstick with a clean cloth, and slide it back
in as far as it will go.
• Pull it back out and read off th e oil level

The oil level need s to be checke d at regu lar in-

er you refuel and prior t o long tr ips .
Depend ing on the way the vehicle is driven
and the ope ratin g conditions, oil consumption
can be up t o 1/ 2 quar t per 600 mile s (0. 5 liter
per 2,000 km). Consu mption may be hig her
within t he first 3,00 0 miles (5,000 km) .
