If you accidentally shifted into N while driving, you can engage a gear
in the normal way us ing t he selecto r lever . •

Manual operation
R tronic allows the driver to shift gears manually.
Starting from a stop
- Press and hold the brake peda l.
- Move the selector lever to the left.
- Tap the selector lever forward
0 -
- Release t he brake pedal and accelerate => & -
Shifting
- To shift up, tap the selector lever forward 0 -
- To shift down, tap the selector lever to t he rear Q.
Stopping temporarily
- Prevent the vehicle from moving by using the foot brake,
e.g . at traf f ic signals .
- Do not accelerate . If you do not press either the brake
pedal or the accelerator pedal for some time when
stationary, neutral position N is engaged automatically
and a chime sounds.
Parking
- Press and hold the brake pedal=> & -
- Apply the ha nd brake firmly .
- Engage a gear .
- Switc h the ignition off .
Stopping on an incline
- Always keep the vehicle stat ionary using the foot brake to
prevent it from "rolling back" =>& . Do
not try to prevent
the vehicle from "rolling back" when a gear is engaged by
increasing engine speed.
- Apply the hand brake firmly .
Starting on a hill
Wit h a gear engaged, remove your foo t from the brake,
acc e lerat e and slowly release t he hand brake .
When accelerating, R tro nic shifts into the next gear in gea rs 1, 2, 3,
4 and 5 shortly before the maximum permissible engine speed is
reached . Except io n: You have activated the sport function
=>page 85.
If you have selected a lower gear than the current one, R tronic will
shift down only when the engine will not be over-revved .
