Afte r moun ti ng a roof rack system, or when you transport
objects on t he roof of your vehicle, the height of the vehicle is natu -
rally increased . Be carefu l when driving under low bridges or in
parking garages for example . This cou ld cause damage to the load
and even the vehicle itself.
Mounting locations
The roof rack must be attache d only at the positioning
bolts .

When installing the feet make sure that they are positioned exactly
on the position ing bolts prov ided @ between the side pane l and
the upper roof frame => fig. 72. The positioning bolt is visib le as
soon as the lip of the sealing strip is pushed back from the roof
frame with the tool provided .
Loading the roof rack
Al ways distrib ute the loads evenly. Make sure anyth ing on
the roof rack is securely tied down.

The maximum permissible roof weight is 165 lb (75 kg). The roof
weight is made up of the we ight of the roof rack system and the
we ight of the object being t ransported .
When using a roof rack system which has a lower load carrying
capacity, you must not use up the tota l maximum permissible load
carrying capacity specified above. Instead , you should load the roof
rack system only to the maximum capacity specified by the manu -
facturer of the roof rack system.
& WARNING
Weak, damaged or improper straps used to secure item s to the
roof rack can fail during hard braking or in a collision and cause
serious personal injury.
Make sure the roof rack is installed exactly as specified above
=> page 83.
Always use suitable mounting straps for securing items to the
roof rack to help prevent items from shifting or flying forward .
Items on the roof rack must alway s be securely mounted .
The use of a roof rack can negativel y affect the way a vehicle
handles. Cargo that is large, heavy, bulky, long or flat will have a
greater negati ve influence on the vehicle's aerodynamics, center
of gravity and overall handling. Alway s drive slowly, avoid sudden
braking and maneuver s when transporting cargo on the roof of
your vehicle.
Never exceed the maximum permi ssible load carrying capacity
of the roof of your vehicle, the permi ssible axle weight s and the
perm issible total weight of your vehicle :::::>

Alway s drive slowly, avoid sudden braking and maneuver s
when transporting cargo on the roof of your vehicle.
