Overview

The Audio-Technica ATH-S220BT are wireless headphones designed for a comfortable listening experience and versatile use. These headphones offer Bluetooth connectivity, allowing users to enjoy music, receive phone calls, and interact with their devices wirelessly.

Function Description:

The ATH-S220BT headphones are primarily designed for audio playback and hands-free communication. They connect to Bluetooth-enabled devices such as smartphones, tablets, and computers. The headphones feature a built-in microphone for phone calls and voice commands, and a control button for managing playback and calls. A unique "low latency mode" is included to reduce sound delay, which is particularly useful for gaming or watching videos, ensuring better synchronization between audio and visuals. Additionally, the headphones support a wired connection (playthrough function), allowing them to be used as passive headphones even when the battery is depleted. This wired mode bypasses the need for battery power, making them functional in any situation.

Usage Features:

  • Power ON/OFF: The headphones are turned on and off by pressing and holding the power supply/control button for approximately 2 seconds. Voice guidance confirms the power status, and an indicator lamp lights up in white.
  • Bluetooth Pairing: To connect to a new device, the headphones need to be paired. Starting with the headphones off, turning them on initiates pairing mode, indicated by a flashing white lamp. Users then search for "ATH-S220BT" on their Bluetooth device and select it to complete the pairing. Voice guidance announces "Bluetooth connected" upon successful pairing.
  • Fast Pair: For Android devices configured with a Google account, the ATH-S220BT supports Fast Pair, enabling quick and effortless Bluetooth pairing with a single touch of a notification on the Android device.
  • Multipoint Function: The headphones support multipoint connectivity, allowing two Bluetooth devices to be connected simultaneously. This feature is convenient for users with multiple smartphones, enabling them to switch between devices for music listening and answering calls without re-pairing.
  • Wearing the Product: The headphones are designed for comfort. Users should place the "L" (LEFT) side on their left ear and the "R" (RIGHT) side on their right ear, then adjust the slider and headband to ensure the earpads cover the ears properly.
  • Swivel Mechanism: The housing of the headphones can be folded flat, making them easier to store and transport. The swivel mechanism allows rotation up to 90 degrees.
  • Music Playback: After pairing, music playback can be initiated from the Bluetooth device. Volume adjustments are made using the dedicated volume buttons (+/-). The power supply/control button can be pressed to start or pause playback.
  • Phone Calls: When connected to a Bluetooth device with telephone features, the headphones can be used to make and receive calls. An incoming call is indicated by a ringtone, and music playback is paused. Calls can be answered, canceled, or ended using the power supply/control button. The call volume can be adjusted with the volume buttons. The headphones also support switching calls between the product and the Bluetooth device by pressing and holding the power supply/control button during a call.
  • Low Latency Mode: This mode can be activated or deactivated by pressing the power supply/control button three times in a row. Voice guidance confirms the status ("Low latency mode" or "Low latency mode off"). This feature is particularly beneficial for reducing audio delay during gaming or video playback.
  • Wired Connection: The headphones can be used with the included cable for a wired connection to portable audio players. In this mode, the headphone buttons are not active, and the device functions as passive headphones, requiring no battery power. The cable includes an in-line microphone and control for wired communication.
  • Auto Power Off: To conserve battery, the headphones automatically turn off after 5 minutes if they are not connected to a device or if they remain in "Waiting to be connected" status for 5 minutes.
  • Indicator Lamp Display: The indicator lamp provides visual cues for various statuses, including pairing (flashing white), connecting (flashing white in intervals), music playback (flashing white in intervals), low battery (flashing red), charging (lit red), fully charged (off), and charging error (flashing red).
  • Voice Guidance: The headphones provide English voice guidance for key operational situations, such as power on/off, Bluetooth connection status, low latency mode status, music playback/pause, and battery level (high, medium, low).

Maintenance Features:

  • Charging the Battery: The built-in rechargeable battery should be fully charged before first use. When the battery is low, voice guidance will announce "Low battery," and the indicator lamp will flash red. Charging takes approximately 4 hours. It is recommended to charge the product in a well-ventilated area (10 to 35°C / 50 to 95°F) away from direct sunlight. The included USB charging cable (USB Type-A / USB Type-C) must be used for charging. If charging starts while the product is on, it will automatically turn off.
  • Regular Cleaning: To ensure longevity, regular cleaning is advised. A dry cloth should be used for cleaning the headphones. Earpads and the headband should be wiped with a dry cloth, especially if they get wet with sweat, and allowed to dry in the shade to prevent fading. Any moisture, such as sweat, from operating areas like buttons should be wiped off immediately to prevent corrosion and malfunction. The USB plug and the in-line mic/control plug of the cable should also be wiped with a dry cloth if dirty to prevent sound skipping or noise.
  • Storage: For extended periods of non-use, the product should be stored in a well-ventilated place, free from high temperatures and humidity.
  • Earpad Replacement: Earpads are consumable parts and may deteriorate over time with use or storage. Users can contact their local Audio-Technica dealer for earpad replacement or other repairs.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides guidance for common issues such as power supply problems, pairing difficulties, no sound/faint sound, distorted sound/noise/sound cuts out, and charging issues. Solutions include charging the product, re-pairing, adjusting volume, checking connections, and moving away from interference sources.
  • Forced Pairing Mode/Reset: If pairing issues persist or the product operates abnormally, a forced pairing mode or a full reset can be performed. This involves pressing and holding specific buttons for a duration, which will either re-enter pairing mode or restart the device, clearing any abnormal states. After a reset, the product should be removed from the Bluetooth device's registered list and paired again.
