Overview

The Autel G-BOX3 is a specialized tool designed to enhance the functionality of Autel's advanced diagnostic tablets, particularly for IMMO (immobilizer) and Key Programming functions. It is primarily used for Mercedes-Benz vehicles and Bosch ECUs, offering solutions for situations where all keys are lost or for reading engine passwords on the bench.

Function Description:

The core function of the G-BOX3 is to facilitate faster and more efficient key programming and engine control unit (ECU) operations.

  • Mercedes-Benz All Keys Lost (AKL) Solution:

    • OBDII Operation (for vehicles manufactured after 2009 with W204, W207, W216, and W164 EISs): The G-BOX3 connects to the vehicle's OBDII port. It requires removing the vehicle's EIS fuse and connecting the G-BOX3's relay ports to the fuse using a supplied fuse cable. If the vehicle has an ELV (Electronic Steering Lock), the K7 port of the G-BOX3 connects to the ELV plug via a K-line cable. This setup allows for fast mode operation directly on the vehicle when all keys are lost, significantly reducing the time and complexity associated with traditional methods that might involve repeated insertion and removal processes.
    • Desktop Operation (for all Mercedes-Benz vehicle EISs supported by Autel Diagnostic tablets): For a broader range of Mercedes-Benz EISs, the G-BOX3 can be used on the bench. In this scenario, the G-BOX3 connects directly to the Mercedes-Benz EIS using a DB15 cable and is powered by a 12V DC adapter. This method provides a controlled environment for key programming when all keys are lost, independent of the vehicle's power system.
  • Bosch ECU Engine Password Reading on Bench: The G-BOX3 is capable of reading and accessing most engines manufactured by Bosch, including those from the EDC/17MEx17 series and MD1/MG1 series. This functionality is crucial for performing key adaptations and engine replacements. When used on the bench, the G-BOX3 connects to the engine ECU and is powered by a 12V DC adapter. This allows technicians to extract necessary engine password information for various programming and replacement tasks.

  • Reduced Time and Complexity: A significant advantage of the G-BOX3 is its ability to reduce the time required for these operations and eliminate the need for repetitive insertion and removal processes, particularly in AKL scenarios for Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

  • Compatibility: The G-BOX3 is designed to be compatible with Autel's advanced diagnostic tablets that support IMMO and Key Programming functions, integrating seamlessly into the existing Autel ecosystem.

Important Technical Specifications (based on port descriptions):

  • Power Supply:

    • DC Port: Provides +12V DC power supply.
    • +12V Power Port: Universal power input/output port.
    • GND Port: Universal power input/output port.
    • The device operates with a 12V DC power adapter when used on the bench.
  • Communication Interfaces:

    • CAN-H Port (PIN6) & CAN-L Port (PIN14): Universal CAN bus interfaces, connecting with OBDII PIN6 and PIN14 respectively. These are essential for high-speed data communication with vehicle systems and ECUs.
    • K1 Port (PIN1) & K7 Port (PIN7): Universal K-line interfaces, connecting with OBDII PIN1 and PIN7 respectively. K-line is an older, single-wire serial communication protocol still used in many vehicle systems, particularly for immobilizer and engine control units. The K7 port is specifically mentioned for connecting to the ELV plug using a K-line cable in Mercedes-Benz AKL scenarios.
    • OBDII Connector: Connects to the vehicle's OBDII directly or via a dedicated extension cable. This is the primary interface for in-vehicle operations.
    • OBDII Female Connector: Connects to the main cable of the Autel Diagnostic Tablet, establishing the link with the diagnostic tool.
    • DB15 Port: Used with a dedicated DB15 cable for reading and writing multiple types of ECUs. This port is crucial for bench operations with Mercedes-Benz EIS and Bosch ECUs.
    • Relay Ports: Connect with dedicated relay cables, used in conjunction with the vehicle's EIS fuse for specific operations.
  • Status Indicator: An LED indicator that shows the current operating status of the device, providing visual feedback to the user.

Usage Features:

  • Versatile Operation Modes: Supports both on-vehicle (OBDII) and on-bench operations, offering flexibility depending on the specific task and vehicle/ECU type.
  • Dedicated Cables and Accessories: Comes with a comprehensive packing list of accessories, including:
    • G-BOX3 unit
    • DB15 Cable (for connecting to EIS/ECU on bench)
    • Fuse Cable (for connecting to vehicle's EIS fuse)
    • Fuse(5A) x2 (replacement fuses)
    • Clamp Cable x2 (likely for direct power connections or specific ECU pins)
    • K-line Cable (for ELV connection)
    • OBDII Extension Cable (for extended reach to the vehicle's OBDII port)
    • Quick Reference Guide (this manual itself)
  • Clear Connection Diagrams: The manual provides detailed connection steps and diagrams for each operation mode, ensuring correct setup and preventing potential damage.
  • Integration with Autel Tablets: Designed to work seamlessly with Autel's diagnostic tablets, leveraging their IMMO and Key Programming software.
  • User-Friendly Design: The port labeling and status indicator contribute to ease of use, guiding the technician through the process.

Maintenance Features:

  • Durability and Quality: Manufactured to a high standard, implying robust construction for long-term trouble-free performance.
  • Warranty: Autel provides a 12-month warranty, covering material and manufacturing defects. This indicates a commitment to product quality and customer support.
  • Warranty Void Conditions: The warranty is voided under specific circumstances, which highlight important maintenance and usage guidelines:
    • Improper installation of the product.
    • Improper use.
    • Product damage due to collision, man-made damage, or natural disasters.
    • Exceeding product-specific use restrictions. These conditions emphasize the importance of following instructions and using the device as intended to ensure its longevity and maintain warranty coverage.
  • Safety Precautions: The manual explicitly states the importance of reading instructions carefully and paying special attention to safety warnings and precautions. This is crucial for preventing damage to the tool, the vehicle, or personal injury, and for maintaining the product warranty. Using the unit as intended is paramount.
  • Access to Support: Autel provides multiple channels for service and support, including a website, email, and phone numbers for different regions (China HQ, North America, Europe, South America, Australia), ensuring users can get assistance when needed.

In summary, the Autel G-BOX3 is a powerful and specialized accessory for Autel diagnostic tablets, significantly enhancing their capabilities for Mercedes-Benz key programming (especially in all-keys-lost scenarios) and Bosch ECU engine password reading. Its design focuses on efficiency, versatility, and ease of integration, supported by clear instructions and a robust warranty policy.
