• Thestorageareashouldbefreefromambientvibration.Excessivevibrationcancause
bearingdamage.
• Precautionsshouldbetakentopreventrodents,snakes,birds,orothersmallanimals
fromnestinginsidethemotors.Inareaswheretheyareprevalent,precautionsmust
alsobetakentopreventinsectsfromgainingaccesstotheinteriorofthemotor.
• Ifnotstoredindoorsinacontrolledenvironment,someformofheatingmustbe
utilizedtopreventcondensationfromaccumulatinginthemotor.Thisheatingshould
maintainthewindingtemperatureataminimumof9ºF(-12.8ºC)abovetheambient
temperatureofthesurroundingenvironment,keepingitfromdroppingbelowthedew
pointwherecondensationcouldforminsidethemotor.Ifspaceheatersaresupplied,
theyshouldbeenergized.Requesttherequiredvoltageandtransformercapacityfrom
yourlocalBACRepresentative.Athirdoptionistouseanauxiliaryheatsourceand
keepthewindingwarmbyeitherconvectionorblowingwarmairintothemotor.
• Rotatethemotorshaftmonthlytoredistributebearinggrease.
Maintenance Requirements
• Rotateallfansandmotorshaftsmonthlybyhand.Hand-turningwillensurethatthe
shaftsandbearingsarefreeandwillredistributegreasewithinthebearings.Keep
handsawayfrompinchpointssuchasboltsandsheaves.
• Inspectthecoldwaterbasinmonthlytoensurethatthedrainisopenandremoveany
leavesordebristhatmayhaveaccumulatedinthecoldwaterbasin.
• Inspectaxialfanspriortostart-upandatleastonceannuallytoensurethattheblades
aretightandthatthereisnoobviouscorrosionbetweenthehubandthefanblade.
• Inspecttherustpreventativecoatingonallmotorexternalmachinedsurfaces
includingshaftextensionsmonthly.Ifnecessary,re-coatthesurfaceswithRUST
VETO
®
.
Start-Up Preparation After Prolonged Storage
Keepinmindthatstart-upproceduresafterlongperiodsofstoragearejustasimportantas
pre-shutdownprocedures.
• Motorsshouldbethoroughlyinspectedandcleanedandrestoredtopre-storage
condition.
• Inspecttheaxialfanpriortostart-uptoensurethatthebladesaretightandthatthere
isnoobviouscorrosionbetweenthehubandthefanblades.Donotenergizethefan
ifthereisobviouscorrosionoffancomponents.Loosefanbladescouldresultinfan
failureandpossibleinjuryordamage.
• Reinstallallfanbelts,motors,doorgaskets,anddrainplugs(asapplicable),and
removeallprotectivecoverings.
• Forunitsstoredpriortoinstallation,conductriggingproceduresasdirectedinthe
unit’sRigging and Assembly Instructions,availableonwww.BaltimoreAircoil.comorby
contactingyourlocalBACRepresentative.
• Performaninsulationtestofmotorwindingstoensuresatisfactoryinsulation
resistance.
• Conductfullstart-upprocedureasstatedinthe“Start-UpProcedure”onpage 4.Be
especiallythoroughforcleaningandinspectionpriortostart-up.
• Forunitswiththeoptionalgeardrivesystem,thegearboxmustbefullydrained,
thenrelledwithnewoilatornearthemiddleoftheoillevelsightgaugetoprevent
damage.Then,followthestepsin“InitialStart-up”onpage 13.
