Overview

This document provides assembly, operation, and maintenance instructions for the Galloway Bar Top & Base, a decorative outdoor gas appliance.

Function Description:

The Galloway Bar Top & Base is an outdoor decorative gas appliance designed for ambiance and warmth, not for cooking. It can operate on a 20 lb (9 kg) propane cylinder with a Type 1 connector and an Overfill Protection Device (OPD), or it can be converted to natural gas (conversion must be professionally installed). The appliance features a firepan/burner assembly that holds fire media (lava rock or fire ice) to create a flame effect. It includes a control knob for flame adjustment, an igniter button for lighting, and a gas valve for controlling the fuel supply. The unit is designed for outdoor use only, in a well-ventilated space, and should not be used in a building, garage, or any other enclosed area.

Important Safety Information:

  • Gas Leaks: If you smell gas, immediately shut off the gas to the appliance, extinguish any open flame, and if the odor persists, keep away from the appliance and call your gas supplier. Never use a flame to check for leaks.
  • Installation: Installation must conform to local codes or, in their absence, with the National Fuel Gas Code, ANSI Z223.1/NFPA 54; International Fuel Gas Code; Natural Gas and Propane Installation Code, CSA B149.1; or Propane Storage and Handling Code, B149.2. Installation and repair should be performed by a qualified service person.
  • Combustible Materials: The appliance area must be kept clear and free from combustible materials, gasoline, and other flammable vapors and liquids. Clearances to combustible surfaces are 24 inches (60.96 cm) on the sides and 72 inches (182.88 cm) on top.
  • Children and Adults: Children and adults should be alerted to the hazards of high surface temperatures and kept at a safe distance to avoid burns or clothing ignition. Young children should be carefully supervised.
  • Storage: Do not store or use gasoline or other flammable vapors and liquids near the appliance. An LP cylinder not connected for use shall not be stored near the appliance. Storage of the appliance indoors is permissible only if the cylinder is disconnected and removed. Disconnected cylinders must have threaded valve plugs tightly installed and be stored outdoors in a well-ventilated area out of reach of children.
  • Water Damage: Do not use the appliance if any part has been under water. Call a qualified service technician to inspect and replace any affected parts.
  • Burner Media: Do NOT ignite the burner before pouring all burner media (lava rock or fire ice) into the burner pan. The media must be evenly distributed over the burner. During initial firing, stay away for 20 minutes as media may pop. Do NOT ignite or use if burner media are wet, as intense heat can cause them to crack and pop.
  • Cooking: It is UNSAFE to use this product for cooking.
  • Propane Regulator: The provided propane gas pressure regulator must be used, set for an outlet pressure of 11 inches water column.
  • Hose Inspection: Before each use, inspect the LP hose for abrasion, wear, or cuts. Replace if damaged. Keep the fuel supply hose away from heated surfaces.
  • Burner Inspection: Inspect the burner before each use. Replace if damaged.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • CSA Model: WT17IL
  • SKU: 272-4292\4293
  • Factory Model: ARV04700K02/K04
  • Input: 30,000 Btu/hr
  • Propane Regulator Pressure: 11 in / 2.74 kPa water column
  • Natural Gas Minimum Inlet Pressure: 7 in / 1.74 kPa water column
  • Clearances to Combustible Surfaces: Sides: 24 in / 60.96 cm; Top: 72 in / 182.88 cm
  • Battery: One Alkaline AA size battery (1.5V) for the ignition module.

Usage Features:

  • Assembly: The manual provides detailed step-by-step instructions for assembling the base frame, side panels, door panel, firepan/burner assembly, and tabletop. All bolts should be hand-tightened initially, then fully tightened with the hex bolt driver after alignment adjustments.
  • LP Tank Connection: The LP tank is placed in the bottom frame and secured with threaded knobs on the tank tray. The regulator hose connects to the LP tank.
  • Lighting Instructions:
    1. Ensure the control knob is in the "OFF" position.
    2. Open the LP tank valve all the way.
    3. Push in the igniter button (a slight clicking sound will be heard).
    4. While holding the igniter button in, push and turn the control knob to the "ON" position.
    5. Once the flame is lit, release the igniter button and continue to hold the control knob in for 10-15 seconds.
    6. Release the control knob; the fire should remain lit.
    7. If the fire does not light, turn the knob to "OFF" and wait five minutes before trying again.
  • Flame Adjustment: Push the control knob in slightly and turn to "Medium" or "Low" to adjust the flame size.
  • Shut Down: Turn the control knob to the "OFF" position and turn off the tank valve.
  • Natural Gas Conversion: This is a critical feature that must be performed by a natural gas provider or service company. It involves shutting off the gas supply, disconnecting the flex connector, unscrewing the orifice holder, replacing the propane orifice with a natural gas orifice, installing an air shutter, reattaching the orifice holder and flex connector, isolating the appliance from the gas supply piping system, and replacing the propane rubber hose with a 5/8" natural gas pipe. A conversion label must be affixed to the rating plate after conversion.
  • Battery Installation: The ignition module requires one AA battery (1.5V). Unscrew the push button cap to access the compartment. The negative (-) end of the battery goes in first. Ensure correct polarity.

Maintenance Features:

  • Burner Cleaning: After the burner has cooled completely, use a soft brush to clean it. Do not use a vacuum cleaner.
  • Annual Inspection: The appliance should be inspected before use and at least annually by a professional service person. More frequent cleaning may be required. Control compartments, burners, and circulating air passageways must be kept clean.
  • Storage: It is recommended to store the fire pit indoors during winter if it will be subjected to freezing temperatures. The LP cylinder must be disconnected and removed before storing the appliance indoors.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual includes a troubleshooting guide for common issues such as the burner not lighting (no propane, no spark, lack of oxygen) and the burner not staying lit (thermocouple not in flame, loose thermocouple connection, no glass beads on burner).

Warranty:

  • One-Year Limited Warranty: Covers defects in material and workmanship for the stainless tube/plate burner for one year.
  • Limited 90 Days: Covers all remaining parts for 90 days.
  • Conditions: Warranty is valid only when the unit is installed and operated according to the manual and local codes. It applies only to the original purchaser from authorized dealers and is not transferable.
  • Exclusions: Commercial use, clearance items, freight damage, misuse, abuse, neglect, lack of proper care/maintenance, normal wear and tear, acts of nature, vandalism, fire, improper assembly, corrosion/rusting of hardware, plastic parts, loss of use, inconvenience, money, travel, packaging, or incidental/special/consequential damages.
  • Service: To obtain warranty service, contact customer service at 1-800-416-3511 with proof of purchase. Photographs or return of defective items may be required.
