Machine Specifications Overview

Overview

The BARRETO MODEL E37SG CENTER PIVOT is a hydraulic track stump grinder designed for the removal of in-ground tree stumps and exposed roots. This owner's manual provides comprehensive information on its operation, maintenance, and technical specifications.

Function Description:

The primary function of the E37SG is to efficiently grind and remove tree stumps and their exposed root systems. It is equipped with a hydraulic track system for mobility and a cutter head for the grinding operation. The machine is designed for heavy-duty use in various conditions, making it suitable for professional landscaping and tree removal services. The "Center Pivot" designation likely refers to a design feature that allows for precise maneuverability and grinding action around the stump.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model Number: E37SGB
  • Engine: Briggs/Vanguard
    • Power: 37 hp (27.6 kW) at 3600 RPM
    • Fuel: Gasoline
    • Fuel Capacity: 4.6 U.S. gallons (17.4 liters)
    • Engine Oil Capacity: 1.8 quarts (1.7 liters)
    • Electric Start: Standard
    • Hour Meter: Standard
  • Dimensions:
    • Weight: 1950 lb (884.5 kg)
    • Height: 52.2" (1.32 m)
    • Length: 92.5" (2.35 mm)
    • Width: 35.5" (901.7 mm)
  • Hydraulic System:
    • Reservoir Capacity: 14 U.S. gallons (53 liters)
    • Oil Cooler: Standard
    • Hydraulic Fluid Recommendation: Tractor transmission / hydraulic fluid ISO 68 for ambient temperatures between +32°F (0°C) and +90°F (32°C). For temperatures below +32°F (0°C), hydraulic fluid ISO 46 is recommended.
  • Track System:
    • Track Width: 7.1" (180 mm)
    • Total Ground Contact: 482.8" (.312 sq/m)
  • Operations:
    • Ground Drive, Forward: 190 feet per minute (57.9 m/m)
    • Ground Drive, Reverse: 90 feet per minute (27.4 m/m)

Usage Features:

  • Operator Training: The manual emphasizes the importance of proper operator training, especially for rental customers. This includes instruction on starting the engine, loading/unloading from a trailer, securing for transport, and the grinding procedure.
  • Safety Decals: The machine is equipped with various safety decals, including warnings for rotating blades, the necessity of guards, and the importance of reading the operator's manual. There's also a California Proposition 65 Warning regarding chemicals.
  • Controls: The machine features grip switches, a thumb switch, and a trigger switch for pump control, indicating intuitive operation.
  • Engine Management: The manual highlights the importance of moving the fuel shutoff lever to the closed position after stopping the engine to prevent fuel leakage into the cylinder and crankcase, which could void the engine warranty.
  • Pre-Operation Checks: Before starting, users are instructed to check hydraulic fluid levels and engine oil/fuel levels, as shipping regulations may prohibit shipping with these fluids pre-filled.

Maintenance Features:

  • Hour Meter (DGI® TACH/HOUR): Tracks machine operation hours for timely maintenance. It has a pre-set Flash Alert mode at 25-hour intervals, prompting frequent oil changes due to heavy-duty use, even if the engine manufacturer specifies longer intervals. The service interval can be reset using a RESET TOOL (Key Kancel Wand) or a small mechanic's pick-up magnet.
  • Routine Maintenance Checks: Regularly inspect and clean the muffler guard, hydraulic hoses and fittings, fuel lines, fasteners, and safety decals. Replace damaged or unreadable decals.
  • Hydraulic System Maintenance:
    • Initial hydraulic fluid capacity is approximately 14 U.S. gallons (53 liters).
    • Change the hydraulic fluid filter after the first 50 hours of use, then every 200 hours thereafter. Add approximately one quart (1 liter) of hydraulic fluid with each filter change.
    • Check all hydraulic fittings for leaks and tighten as necessary.
    • Critical Installation Gap: If couplers between the engine and cutter head pump are moved or removed, a 1/16th inch gap must be maintained when reinstalled to prevent rapid wear and pump failure.
    • Changing Hydraulic Fluid: Detailed steps are provided for draining and refilling the hydraulic fluid, including lifting the machine, removing drain and fill plugs, and proper disposal of used fluid.
  • Briggs/Vanguard Maintenance Schedule: A dedicated chart outlines maintenance tasks at various intervals:
    • First 5 Hours: Change oil.
    • Every 8 Hours or Daily: Check engine oil level, clean area around muffler and controls.
    • Every 100 Hours or Annually: Clean/change air filter, change engine oil and filter, clean pre-cleaner (if equipped), replace spark plug, check muffler and spark arrester.
    • Every 250 Hours or Annually: Check valve clearance.
    • Every 400 Hours or Annually: Change air filter, replace fuel filter, clean air cooling system, clean oil cooler fins.
    • Every 600 Hours or Annually: Change safety filter (if equipped).
    • Note: More frequent cleaning is recommended in dusty conditions or with airborne debris. The inner safety filter should be replaced every third air filter change.
  • Lubrication Requirements: Specific grease points are identified with a diagram and intervals:
    • Weekly or 30 hours: Track rear idlers, track front idlers, head lift pin, swing cylinder trunion (2 sides), head swing pin, lift cylinder trunion (2 sides), lift rod pin.
    • Daily or 6 hours: Cutter wheel bearing (2 sides).
  • Track Tension Adjustment: Two methods are provided:
    • Spring Compression: Loosen adjuster nuts, measure free length, then tighten to compress springs by 5/8” (16mm) less than free length.
    • Track Sag: Lift the machine, measure the distance between central rollers and track metal core bars, and adjust for 1/2” (13mm) track sag.
    • Instructions for track removal and replacement are also included.
  • Battery Maintenance: Detailed procedures for checking electrolyte level, cleaning, and charging the battery.
    • Safety Warnings: Emphasizes wearing protective gear due to sulfuric acid, flammability, and explosiveness of battery fumes.
    • Electrolyte Level: Check every 25 hours, add distilled water if needed.
    • Charging: Instructions for disconnecting, removing, cleaning, charging, and reinstalling the battery, including proper cable connection order (negative first for removal, positive first for reattachment).
  • Cutter Wheel Torque Specs:
    • Cutter Teeth: Inspect after every use. Rotate frequently to keep edges sharp. Torque to 25 ft. lbs.
    • Holders: Inspect and torque to 180 ft. lbs.
    • Axle and Drive Stub Nuts: Torque to 55 ft. lbs.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: A comprehensive guide for common issues, including:
    • Entire hydraulic system not operating.
    • Engine lugs down or dies, tracks and cutter wheel do not turn.
    • Cutter fails to rotate, but track drive works.
    • Tracks fail to turn, but cutter rotates.
    • Hydraulic fluid leaks.
    • Foaming hydraulic fluid.
    • Cutter does not lift.
    • Each issue includes possible causes and recommended solutions (e.g., adding fluid, checking couplers, adjusting relief valves, replacing parts).
