Description
The Basalte Core Plus server is at the heart of the Basalte Home visualisation. It oers a comprehensive
functionality set for KNX home automation systems: from light & shade control over the native integration of
third-party solutions like Philips Hue to door phones, AV gear and more. The built-in logic functions allow to
create home automation sequences. Connect the Core Plus to the Asano multiroom amplifiers using audio
network and use the 4 streams to play your music library, internet radio and streaming services in any room.
Basalte Studio allows you to fully configure all Cores functionalities whilst the end-user can take full control
with the intuitive Basalte App.
How to start up
After initial power-up, Core Plus needs to be configured using Basalte Studio.
For more information, please refer to the software manual.
Connect the DC plug to the Core Plus before connecting the AC/DC Power Supply unit to the mains.
LED feedback
The Core Plus front panel has a feedback LED , which indicates following statuses:
Blue: start-up – no music available
White: normal operation mode
Green: new software update, will be installed overnight
Orange: software upgrade ongoing – do not turn the power o
Red: failure detected, make sure the Core has an active network and internet connection and refer to the
Basalte App settings (> About > Status) where more context about the fault code will be displayed.

Overview

The Basalte Core Plus server (Model No. 790-14) is a central component for the Basalte Home visualization system, offering extensive functionality for KNX home automation. It integrates various smart home features, from lighting and shade control to the native integration of third-party solutions like Philips Hue, door phones, and AV equipment. The device also includes built-in logic functions for creating home automation sequences. When connected to Asano multiroom amplifiers via its audio network, the Core Plus provides four audio streams for playing music libraries, internet radio, and streaming services throughout a home. Usage Features:

The Core Plus features a comprehensive set of ports and indicators on its rear panel:

  • Power Supply (12V DC) (1): For connecting the included 12V DC power adapter.
  • Ethernet LAN Port (PoE) (2): Connects the Core Plus to the network and can also provide power via Power over Ethernet (PoE).
  • USB Port (3): Allows for expanding the music library with external USB storage or connecting a Serial.bridge (0910-03, not included).
  • Service Button (4): A recessed button used for various maintenance and configuration tasks (described below).
  • KNX Bus Coupler (5): Connects the device to the KNX bus using a special connector (included).
  • IR Out 1 & 2 (6 & 7): Two infrared outputs for controlling IR devices, each including a triple IR extender (No. 0729-12). IR commands are configured in Basalte Studio.
  • Analog Output (RCA) (8): Stereo RCA output for connecting an external amplifier or surround sound system.
  • Digital Output S/PDIF (Coaxial) (9): Coaxial output for connecting an external amplifier or surround sound system with digital S/PDIF input.

Installation and Startup:

To start up the Core Plus, first connect the DC plug to the device, then connect the AC/DC Power Supply unit to the mains. Initial configuration is performed using Basalte Studio; users should refer to the software manual for detailed instructions.

Network Connection: Ensure the Core Plus is connected to the network, either via Ethernet or PoE. USB Port: Can be used for external storage or linking to a Serial.bridge. KNX Bus: Connects to the KNX bus using the provided dismountable connector. Infrared Outputs: Two IR outputs are available for controlling IR devices, with IR commands configurable in Studio. Audio Outputs: Both analog (RCA) and digital (S/PDIF coaxial) outputs are available for connecting to external audio systems. Audio Network: A dedicated Ethernet CAT5e network connection is required for audio streaming, separate from the main data network. Beam Antenna: Connects wirelessly to the Basalte beam network. Programming Key: Used with Basalte Studio for configuration.

Maintenance Features:

The Core Plus front panel features an LED that provides feedback on the device's status:

  • Blue: Indicates startup mode, with no music available.
  • White: Indicates normal operation mode.
  • Green: Signals a new software update, which will be installed overnight.
  • Orange: Indicates an ongoing software upgrade; users should not turn off the power during this state.
  • Red: Indicates a detected failure. In this case, users should ensure the Core has an active network and internet connection, and refer to the Basalte App settings (> About > Status) for more context on the fault code.

The recessed service button on the back of the Core Plus offers several maintenance functions, activated by pressing and holding the button with an appropriate tool until the front LED cycles to a specific color, then releasing it:

  • No LED: Releasing the button when no LED is lit will result in no action (a pause between colors).
  • Yellow: Initiates a restart of the Core. This action is also available from the Basalte App settings page when logged in as an administrator.
  • Cyan: Restores DHCP settings, useful if the Core Plus becomes unreachable due to network issues.
  • Magenta: Performs a factory reset, which removes the current configuration and its history.

Important Safety Note: Always connect the DC plug to the Core Plus before connecting the AC/DC Power Supply unit to the mains. Any changes or modifications not expressly approved in this manual could void the user's authority to operate the equipment.
