Overview

The BEDSLIDE SIDE KIX is an accessory designed to enhance the functionality and organization of a truck bed, specifically when used in conjunction with a BEDSLIDE system. This device provides additional storage and tie-down points, making it easier to secure and transport cargo safely and efficiently. The SIDE KIX system is directional, meaning proper orientation is crucial for correct installation and optimal performance, with the "BEDSLIDE" logo serving as a key indicator for forward-facing placement.

Function Description:

The primary function of the BEDSLIDE SIDE KIX is to create a perimeter of organized storage and cargo management within the truck bed. By attaching to the existing BEDSLIDE system, it forms bins or compartments along the sides, allowing users to store smaller items, tools, or equipment securely, preventing them from shifting during transit. These side bins are particularly useful for keeping frequently accessed items within easy reach or for separating different types of cargo.

Beyond simple storage, the SIDE KIX integrates D-ring tie-downs, which are essential for securing larger or irregularly shaped items. These D-rings provide robust anchor points, enabling users to strap down cargo with ropes, bungee cords, or ratchet straps, ensuring everything remains stable and safe, even on rough terrain or during sudden stops. The system also supports the attachment of a guardrail and a support bar, further enhancing its cargo containment capabilities and structural integrity. The guardrail acts as a barrier to prevent items from sliding off the BEDSLIDE, while the support bar adds rigidity and can serve as an additional anchor point or a base for other accessories.

The overall design aims to maximize the utility of the truck bed, transforming it from a simple open space into a highly organized and adaptable cargo management system. This is particularly beneficial for professionals who transport tools and materials, outdoor enthusiasts carrying gear, or anyone looking to improve the efficiency and safety of their truck bed.

Usage Features:

The BEDSLIDE SIDE KIX is designed for straightforward installation and intuitive use, making it accessible for a wide range of users.

  • Directional Design for Optimal Placement: A key usage feature is its directional nature, indicated by the "BEDSLIDE" logo. This ensures that the SIDE KIX components are installed correctly, facing forward and outward, which is vital for proper alignment with other BEDSLIDE components and for maintaining the aesthetic and functional integrity of the system. This clear visual cue simplifies the initial setup process.

  • Secure Attachment with Standard Hardware: The SIDE KIX attaches to the BEDSLIDE using common hardware, including Phillips combo head bolts and serrated flange nuts. This choice of hardware ensures a secure connection while also making it easy to install and, if necessary, remove the components using standard tools like a Phillips screwdriver and a 7/16 wrench. The instruction to "DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THE HARDWARE!" highlights the importance of a firm but not excessive torque, preventing damage to the components and ensuring longevity.

  • Integrated D-Ring Tie-Downs for Cargo Security: One of the most significant usage features is the inclusion of D-ring tie-downs. These D-rings are designed to be easily manipulated, turning clockwise into MOUNT BLOCKS within the guardrail to tighten them into place. This mechanism allows for quick and secure attachment of cargo straps, providing versatile anchor points for various types of loads. The ability to quickly engage and disengage these tie-downs enhances the efficiency of loading and unloading cargo.

  • Modular Guardrail and Support Bar Integration: The system accommodates a guardrail and a support bar, which are crucial for comprehensive cargo management. The guardrail, once attached to the SIDE TOWERS, helps contain items within the BEDSLIDE area, preventing them from sliding out. The support bar, positioned at the cab end, adds structural support and can serve as an additional point for securing items or mounting other accessories. The modular nature allows users to customize their setup based on their specific cargo needs.

  • Easy Insertion of Mount Blocks: The installation process involves inserting MOUNT BLOCKS into the guardrail. These blocks are critical for securing the D-ring tie-downs and the support bar. The design allows for easy insertion into the open end of the guardrail, simplifying the assembly process. This feature underscores the system's user-friendly approach to installation.

  • Enhanced Organization and Accessibility: By creating side bins, the SIDE KIX significantly improves the organization of the truck bed. Users can store smaller items, tools, or equipment in these bins, keeping them separate from larger cargo and easily accessible. This reduces clutter and saves time when searching for specific items.

  • Robust Construction for Durability: While not explicitly detailed in specifications, the use of sturdy hardware and the overall design suggest a robust construction intended to withstand the rigors of regular use in a truck bed environment. This implies durability and reliability for long-term cargo management.

Maintenance Features:

The BEDSLIDE SIDE KIX is designed with simplicity in mind, leading to minimal maintenance requirements, primarily focusing on proper installation and occasional checks.

  • Simple Hardware for Easy Replacement: The system utilizes standard hardware such as Phillips combo head bolts, serrated flange nuts, and button head bolts. This choice of common fasteners means that if any hardware components are lost or damaged, replacements are readily available and easy to source, simplifying any potential maintenance or repair tasks.

  • "DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN" Instruction for Longevity: The explicit instruction to "DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THE HARDWARE!" is a crucial maintenance guideline. Over-tightening can strip threads, deform components, or cause stress fractures, leading to premature wear and failure. By adhering to this instruction, users can significantly extend the lifespan of the SIDE KIX components and ensure the integrity of the entire system.

  • Removable End Caps for Access: The guardrail features plastic end caps secured by set screws. These end caps are designed to be loosened and removed to facilitate the insertion of MOUNT BLOCKS. This feature simplifies both initial installation and any future maintenance that might require access to the interior of the guardrail, such as cleaning or inspecting the MOUNT BLOCKS.

  • Periodic Inspection of Fasteners: Although not explicitly stated, a general maintenance practice for any bolted assembly, especially in a vehicle environment, would be periodic inspection of all fasteners. Vibrations and road conditions can sometimes cause bolts and nuts to loosen over time. Regularly checking the tightness of the 1/4-20 x 1 1/4 Phillips combo head bolts, 1/4-20 serrated flange nuts, and 1/4-20 x 3/4 button head bolts would ensure the SIDE KIX remains securely attached and functions optimally.

  • Cleaning and Debris Removal: As an accessory in a truck bed, the SIDE KIX components will be exposed to dirt, dust, and debris. Regular cleaning of the bins, guardrails, and other surfaces will prevent buildup that could potentially interfere with the movement of components or the secure seating of cargo. This simple maintenance step helps preserve both the appearance and functionality of the system.

  • D-Ring Functionality Check: The D-ring tie-downs are critical for cargo security. Periodically checking their ability to turn smoothly into the MOUNT BLOCKS and hold securely is important. Ensuring they are free of rust or obstruction will maintain their effectiveness.

In summary, the BEDSLIDE SIDE KIX is a practical and user-friendly accessory that significantly enhances the utility of a truck bed by providing organized storage and secure cargo tie-down points. Its design emphasizes ease of installation, versatile usage, and minimal, straightforward maintenance, making it a valuable addition for anyone looking to optimize their truck's cargo management capabilities.
