Overview

The BEHRINGER EUROPOWER PMX1000/PMX3000/PMX5000 series comprises state-of-the-art power mixers designed for a wide variety of applications, offering maximum flexibility and performance with a unique sound character. These units integrate revolutionary COOLAUDIO amplifier technology, which significantly reduces weight and size while ensuring extremely high output power.

Function Description:

The PMX series power mixers are equipped with a comprehensive set of features for audio mixing, processing, and amplification. Key functionalities include:

  • Input Channels: The mixers feature mono and stereo input channels. Mono channels are equipped with balanced XLR microphone inputs, providing +48 V phantom power for condenser microphones, and 1/4" LINE IN connectors for balanced or unbalanced signals. Stereo channels offer 1/4" jacks for left and right channels, with some models (PMX1000 channels 5/6 and 7/8) also including balanced XLR microphone inputs. The PMX3000 and PMX5000 models extend stereo connectivity with additional RCA connectors. Each channel includes a TRIM control for input gain adjustment, a LEVEL SET LED for optimal operating level indication, and a LOW CUT filter on mono channels to eliminate unwanted low-frequency signals.
  • Equalization: A graphic 7-band equalizer allows for fine-tuning the sound depending on room acoustics. The equalizer's behavior is influenced by the AMP MODE switch setting. The PMX5000 mono channels feature an additional semi-parametric filter for midrange frequencies (100 Hz to 8 kHz).
  • FBQ Feedback Detection System: This system, activated via the FBQ IN switch, identifies feedback frequencies by illuminating corresponding fader LEDs, allowing users to cut the problematic frequency range until feedback disappears. This function is available for both main and monitor mixes.
  • Digital Effects Processor: A built-in 24-bit/46 kHz multi-effects processor offers 99 different studio effects, including reverb, chorus, flanger, delay, vocal distortion, and various combinations. The PMX5000 boasts two separate effects processors that can be used independently. Effects can be routed to the monitor mix (MON 1/2) and the main mix (MAIN).
  • Voice Canceller: This feature filters vocal-specific frequencies from the CD/TAPE INPUT signal, enabling karaoke applications by removing vocals from a song.
  • Speaker Processing (PMX5000): A dedicated switch activates a filter to adapt the mixer's output to the characteristics of connected loudspeakers, especially those with limited bass frequency response.
  • SURROUND Effect: This control enhances the stereo panorama, making the sound more lively and transparent.
  • AMP MODE Switch: This switch determines the operation mode of the amplifier stage.
    • PMX1000:
      • MAIN: Stereo amplifier operation.
      • MON: Monitor signal on OUTPUT A, main signal on OUTPUT B (both mono).
      • BRIDGE: Bridged mono mode, OUTPUT B delivers twice its normal output power.
    • PMX3000/PMX5000:
      • MAIN L/MAIN R: Stereo amplifier operation.
      • MON 1/MONO: Monitor 1 signal on OUTPUT A, main signal on OUTPUT B (both mono).
      • BRIDGE: Bridged mono mode, OUTPUT B delivers twice its normal output power.
  • Standby Function (PMX1000/PMX5000): Mutes all input channels during pauses, preventing noise pickup from microphones while allowing music playback from CD/TAPE inputs.
  • PFL (Pre Fader Listening) Function (PMX3000/PMX5000): Allows monitoring of pre-fader input gain for individual channels.
  • AFL (After-Fader Listening) Function (PMX3000/PMX5000): Activates solo monitoring of selected channels via the PHONES/CTRL jack.
  • Output Section: Includes MAIN OUT jacks for sending line-level signals to external amplifiers, MON 1/2 SEND for monitor mixes, and a MONO OUT (PMX3000/PMX5000) for subwoofer connection. The PMX5000's MONO OUT features a SUB FILTER and SUB FREQ control for low-frequency range adjustment.
  • Footswitch Control: A 1/4" jack for a standard footswitch to bypass the effects processor. The PMX5000 supports a dual footswitch for independent control of FX1 and FX2.
