Overview

This document provides a comprehensive user manual for a Beko refrigerator, offering guidance on its function, usage, and maintenance.

The refrigerator is designed to store and freeze edible foodstuffs, featuring both a refrigerator compartment and a freezer compartment. It is equipped with adjustable door shelves, an egg section, a bottle shelf, adjustable front feet, adjustable shelves within the main compartment, a wine rack, and a thermostat knob for temperature control. A chiller compartment is also included, designed to keep meat, fish, and wrapped food 2-3 times longer than a standard fridge compartment, maintaining an average temperature of around 0°C. This compartment is not suitable for storing fruits and vegetables.

Usage Features:

Before initial operation, several checks are recommended: ensure the feet are adjusted for perfect leveling, the interior is dry, and air circulates freely at the rear. The interior should be cleaned as per the "Maintenance and cleaning" section. Once plugged in, the fridge interior light will illuminate when the door is open. Users should be aware of normal operating noises from the compressor and the refrigeration system. The front edges of the cabinet may feel warm, which is normal and designed to prevent condensation. It is advised not to load the appliance immediately after switching it on; wait until the correct storage temperature is reached, which can be checked with an accurate thermometer.

Temperature control is managed by a thermostat knob, with settings ranging from 0 (system cooling off) to 5 (coldest setting). The average temperature inside the fridge should be around +5°C. The optimal setting depends on desired temperature, ambient temperature, frequency of door openings, and the amount of food stored. If the ambient temperature is higher than 25°C, the thermostat should be turned to the maximum position; if lower than 25°C, it should be set to the minimum position. Frequent door openings cause the interior temperature to rise, so it's recommended to close the door as soon as possible after use.

For storing frozen food, users should follow the frozen food manufacturer's instructions. To maintain quality, packets should be placed in the freezer as quickly as possible after purchase, labeled and dated, and "Use By" or "Best Before" dates respected. In case of a power failure, avoid opening the door; frozen food should remain unaffected for up to 18 hours. If the failure is longer, food should be checked and either consumed immediately or cooked and re-frozen.

When freezing fresh food, it's recommended not to freeze large quantities at once to preserve quality. The freezing capacity of the appliance is 5 kg in 24 hours. Placing warm food in the freezer compartment will cause the compressor to operate continuously, potentially leading to excessive cooling in the refrigeration compartment. To freeze fresh food, turn the control towards MAX. Small quantities (up to 1/2 kg) can be frozen without adjusting the temperature control. Fresh food should be placed in any part of the freezer, taking care not to mix it with already frozen food.

Ice cubes can be made by filling the ice-cube tray 3/4 full with water and placing it in the Ice Bank. A spoon handle should be used to loosen frozen trays, avoiding sharp objects. Ice cubes stored for several weeks may slowly reduce in size and disappear.

Maintenance Features:

Regular cleaning is essential. The appliance should be switched off at the socket outlet and the mains plug removed before cleaning. Abrasive instruments, soap, household cleaners, detergents, and wax polish should not be used. The cabinet should be cleaned with lukewarm water and wiped dry. The interior can be cleaned with a damp cloth wrung out in a solution of one teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda to one pint of water, then wiped dry. Care must be taken to prevent water from entering the lamp housing. If the appliance will not be used for a long period, it should be switched off, emptied of food, cleaned, and the door left ajar.

Dust on the condenser at the back of the appliance should be removed annually with a vacuum cleaner. Door seals should be checked regularly to ensure they are clean and free from food particles. To remove door racks, all contents should be removed, and the rack pushed upwards from the base. Freezer drawers are removed by pulling them out as far as possible, tilting them upwards, and then pulling them out completely.

The fridge compartment defrosts automatically, with defrost water draining to a collection container at the back. Water droplets may form and refreeze on the back wall; avoid touching them with items in the fridge. If the drain tube is blocked, it can be cleared by pushing the special plastic plunger provided.

The freezer compartment requires manual defrosting twice a year or when a frost layer of about 7 mm has formed. To defrost, switch off the appliance at the socket outlet and remove the mains plug. All food should be wrapped in newspaper and stored in a cool place. Containers of warm water can be placed in the freezer to speed up defrosting. Sharp objects should not be used to remove frost. After defrosting, sponge out the collected water and thoroughly dry the interior before plugging the appliance back in.

Care must be taken when cleaning or carrying the appliance to avoid touching the bottom condenser metal wires at the back, as this could cause injury. The appliance is not designed for stacking. When positioning, ensure not to damage flooring, pipes, or wall coverings. The mains cable should not be caught under the appliance during or after moving. Children should not be allowed to play with or tamper with the controls. Cleaning agents or water containing chlorine should not be used on outer surfaces or chromium-coated parts, as chlorine causes corrosion.

For transportation, the appliance should be kept in a vertical upright position with intact packing. If transported horizontally, it must be laid on its right-hand side (when facing the front) and left upright for at least 4 hours before operation to allow compressor oil to settle. The appliance must be protected from rain, moisture, and other atmospheric influences. Any water in the drain tray should be emptied before moving. The defrost water pipe at the back must be fixed to the plastic evaporating pan on top of the compressor to prevent spillage.

Installation involves fitting two plastic wall spacers onto the condenser at the back. The appliance should be placed on a smooth surface, and the front feet adjusted to ensure it stands upright and stable, preventing excessive vibration and noise. A special receptacle is provided at the back of the cabinet to store the mains plug during transit. The room where the appliance is installed must not be smaller than 10 cubic meters.

Changing the illumination lamp requires calling an authorized service agent. The lamp is specifically designed for food storage compartments and is not suitable for household room illumination, as it must withstand extreme physical conditions.

The manual also includes a "Do's and Don'ts" section, advising on proper food storage, cleaning practices, and general handling to ensure optimal performance and longevity of the appliance. For example, it recommends keeping raw meat and poultry below cooked food, wrapping strong-smelling foods, and chilling white wines and beer. It cautions against storing bananas or melon in the fridge (unless wrapped), poisonous substances, or consuming food stored for excessive periods. It also advises against putting hot food directly into the appliance or placing liquid-filled carbonated bottles in the freezer.
