Installing the Desktop PCI Card Drivers
NOTE:
A stan dard Belkin network cabl e cann ot be used
to dire ctly connect two computers. A specially
wired c able called a crossover cable is n eeded
to all ow you to connect two computers w ithout
the us e of a ne twork hub o r swit ch. B elkin
crossove r cabl es are yello w (Belkin p art number
A3X126- XX-YLW-M).

1. Connect
1.1 Turn of f the p owe r to the c omp uter and
dis co nne ct the po wer c ord .
1.2 Remov e the s cre ws be hi nd yo ur compu ter
cas e tha t secur e t he comp ut er co ver and
rem ove t he co ve r.
1.3 Touc h a ny me tal part of t he ca se to disc har ge
sta ti c e le ctric it y, t o a vo id da ma ge to yo ur
pro duc t or th e com pu ter.
1.4 Loca te an em pt y PCI e xpa ns ion slot
(us ua lly w hite in co lo r). Conf irm that th e
Car d w il l fit i nto t he sl ot yo u hav e cho sen .
1.5 Remov e the meta l PCI b rac ket f rom t he
bac k of th e com pu ter t hat corresp on ds
to th e P CI slot y ou se lec ted. If there is a
scr ew, pl ace it i n a s af e p la ce, as y ou
wil l be us ing i t to at tac h the Ca rd to th e
com pu ter l ater.
1.6 Pus h the C ard f irm ly into t he PC I s lot t hat
you h ave c hosen .
1.7 No w se cur e th e Card wi th the sc rew t ha t
you p re vio us ly place d in a safe place .
1.8 Re pl ace t he c om put er ’s cov er. Now t hat
the C ar d is insta ll ed, you can rec on nec t
the p ow er cord and tur n th e com pu te r
bac k on .
1.9 Co nn ect o ne e nd o f yo ur CAT5 c able into
the r ea r of the Car d.
1.10 Conn ec t the othe r end of th e CAT5
cab le i nto an av ail ab le Fast Ether net
por t on y ou r rou te r, s wit ch, o r any othe r
net wo rki ng d ev ice .

2.1 You may need your Windows 98SE CD-ROM
to complete the installation of the Card. If you
do not have your Windows 98SE CD-ROM,
and the installation wizard asks you for the
Windows 98SE CD-ROM, you will need to
locate it. Belkin cannot provide the Windows
98SE files you need to complete the installation.
2.2 Install the Card in your computer as described
in the section “Connecting the Hardware”.
2.3 Turn on the power to the computer. After
Windows starts up, it will automatically detect
that a new device has been installed. The
following screen will appear. Insert the Card’s
CD into the CD-ROM drive. Click “Next”.

2.8 When t he f ol low in g scr ee n app ears,
cli ck “ Fin ish”.
2.9 Wind ow s wil l ask you to r est ar t th e
com pu ter. C lic k “Yes ” to resta rt y our
com pu ter. W hen y ou r co mpu te r res ta rts ,
the C ar d wil l be re ad y to use.
2.1 Install the Card in your computer as described
in the section “Connecting the Hardware”.
2.2 Turn on the power to the computer. After
Windows starts up, it will automatically detect
that a new device has been installed. The
following screen will appear. Insert the Card’s
CD into the CD-ROM drive. Click “Next”.
2.3 Windows will automatically find the drivers and
install them. Click “Finish”.
2.4 Windows will ask you to restart the computer.
Click “Yes” to restart your computer. When your
computer restarts, the Card will be ready to use.
