Overview

The BELLA 6 Litre Pressure Cooker is a versatile kitchen appliance designed for efficient and fast cooking, offering a range of functions to simplify meal preparation. This multi-cooker combines the benefits of a pressure cooker and a slow cooker, allowing users to create delicious meals up to 70% faster than conventional methods.

Function Description:

The BELLA Pressure Cooker is a "one-pot cooking" solution, meaning most, if not all, preparation can be done within the unit itself. It features 11 pre-programmed settings accessible via a one-touch digital control panel, eliminating the need to manually adjust pressure levels. These settings include:

  • Sauté/Browning: Ideal for caramelizing vegetables, warming spices, or browning meat before pressure cooking. This function helps to build flavor and improve the appearance of dishes. It can also be used to reduce and thicken liquids at the end of cooking.
  • Pressure Cook: A general setting for pressure cooking various foods not covered by other specific functions. The cooking time can be adjusted using the +/- buttons.
  • Slow Cook: This setting allows for long, slow cooking up to 12 hours, similar to a traditional slow cooker. It operates without pressure and is perfect for tenderizing cheaper cuts of meat or for meals that need to cook while you are away from home.
  • Soup/Stew: Dedicated settings for preparing soups and stews, ensuring optimal cooking conditions for these types of dishes.
  • Meat/Chicken: Specific settings for cooking larger pieces of meat (like lamb shanks, pork shoulder, brisket) or whole chickens and chicken pieces (legs, thighs, drumsticks, fillets).
  • Rice/Risotto/Steam: This versatile setting handles perfect fluffy rice, creamy risotto (without constant stirring), and steaming vegetables or other items. For steaming, a steaming rack is included, and users can adjust the time as needed.
  • Warm/Cancel: Automatically activates after cooking to keep food warm for up to 24 hours (though 6 hours is recommended for optimal flavor and texture). It also serves as a cancel button to stop any current function.
  • Delay Timer: Allows users to delay the start of cooking for up to 2 hours, providing flexibility for meal planning.

The unit automatically builds and releases pressure as needed for pressure cooking functions, with a floating safety valve indicating when pressure is present. The LED display shows the cooking time and status.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Capacity: 6 Litres, suitable for family-sized meals.
  • Power: The manual indicates a 13 amp BS1362 ASTA approved fuse must be fitted, implying a standard household power connection.
  • Construction: Features a removable non-stick cooking pot, an inner aluminum plate with a silicone washer and metal peg, and a clear silicone sealing ring for secure lid closure. The base unit houses the heating plate and control panel.
  • Safety Features: Includes a pressure release valve, floating safety valve, and a lid that cannot be opened while the unit is under pressure. The appliance is earthed for electrical safety.

Usage Features:

  • Ease of Use: One-touch digital functions simplify cooking, with pre-set times that can be adjusted.
  • Lid Operation: The lid is secured by turning it anti-clockwise to the "LOCK" position and removed by turning it clockwise to "UNLOCK."
  • Pressure Release Methods:
    • Natural Pressure Release: Recommended for dishes with large amounts of liquid (soups, stocks) to prevent boiling over. Pressure drops naturally over 12-30 minutes.
    • Quick Pressure Release: For faster pressure release, the Pressure Release Valve can be turned to the "Pressure Release" position using an oven mitt. This is useful for delicate foods like vegetables to prevent overcooking.
  • Capacity Guidelines: Do not fill the pot over 4/5 full. For foods that expand or foam (e.g., dried vegetables, beans, grains), do not fill over 1/2 full to prevent blocking the pressure release valve.
  • Utensils: Use heat-resistant plastic or wooden utensils to protect the non-stick coating of the cooking pot.
  • Browning/Sautéing: The unit allows for browning and sautéing directly in the cooking pot before pressure cooking, enhancing flavor and reducing the need for multiple pans.
  • Recipe Guide: The manual includes a recipe guide with dishes like Risotto with Butternut Squash, Moroccan Lamb Shanks, Asian Style Aromatic Pulled Pork, Celeriac and Stilton Soup, Beef Shin Ragu, Pot Roast Chicken, Chicken with Chorizo, South Indian Vegetable Curry, Hearty Winter Soup with Ham Hock, Perfect Mash Potato, and Boston Style Baked Beans.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning:
    • The base unit should be cleaned with a soft damp cloth and should NOT be immersed in water.
    • The removable cooking pot and accessories (measuring cup, rice spoon, steaming rack) can be washed in hot soapy water with a sponge or dishcloth. Avoid abrasive materials.
    • The condensation collector should be removed, emptied, washed, and replaced.
    • The silicone sealing ring, inner aluminum plate, and pressure release valve should be removed, washed with warm water, and dried thoroughly.
    • The pressure release valve cover can be twisted off for cleaning and then clipped back into place.
  • Storage: Ensure all parts are clean and dry before storing. Store the pressure cooker with the cooking pot inside the base unit and the lid loosely on top to prevent aromas, molds, and odors. The power cord should be loosely coiled.
  • Servicing: The appliance requires little maintenance and contains no user-serviceable parts. Any servicing beyond cleaning should be performed by a qualified electrician.
  • Silicone Sealing Ring: Regularly check the silicone sealing ring for cracks or damage. If damaged, it must be replaced to ensure proper pressure build-up and safe operation.
