Overview

The BenQ DC X735 is a digital camera designed for capturing still images and recording video. It features a 7.2-megapixel CCD sensor with a size of 1/2.5-inch, allowing for detailed photographs. The camera is equipped with a 2.5-inch LTPS LCD display with 230K dots for viewing images and navigating menus.

Optical System:

The camera boasts a 3X optical zoom lens, with a focal length ranging from 6.2mm to 18.6mm (equivalent to 37.5mm to 112.5mm in a 35mm camera). It also includes a 4X digital zoom (preview) and 12X digital zoom (playback), which can be further extended to 30X (optical zoom + digital zoom) when the image size is VGA (640 x 480). The lens has an aperture of F2.7 to F5.2.

Focus System:

The focus range for normal shooting is 40 cm to infinity. For macro photography, the camera can focus as close as 15 cm to 50 cm. The camera offers various focus modes including Auto focus, Macro, Pan Focus, and Infinity. It also features an AF area selection with Center and Wide options, and a Face Tracking function that automatically detects and tracks up to 9 human faces in the composition.

Shutter and Capture Modes:

The shutter speed ranges from 1/2000 second to 1 second in normal mode, and up to 8 seconds in Night Scene mode. The DC X735 offers a wide array of 29 scene modes to optimize shooting conditions for different scenarios. These include Auto, Manual, Movie Record, S.S.F. (Super Shake-Free), Portrait, Landscape, Sports, Backlight, Night Scene, Beach, Snow, Fireworks, Night Scene Portrait, Self-Portrait, Building, Soft Flowing Water, Landscape Portrait, Web Auction, High ISO Portrait, Food, Museum, Candle Light, Party, Text, Child, Sunset, Flower, Pet, and Voice Record.

Flash System:

The camera's flash system includes Auto flash, Force off, Force on, Auto anti red-eye, Anti red-eye, and Slow sync modes, providing flexibility for various lighting situations.

Drive Modes:

Available drive modes are Standard (single shot), Self-timer (2 or 10 seconds), Continuous Shoot, and Interval Shoot.

Exposure Control:

Exposure compensation (EV) can be adjusted from -2 to +2 in 1/3 EV steps. The camera supports different AE metering options: Matrix, Center Weight, and Spot.

White Balance and ISO Sensitivity:

White balance settings include Auto, Daylight, Cloudy, Tungsten, Fluorescent, and Manual, allowing for accurate color reproduction under diverse lighting conditions. ISO sensitivity can be set to Auto, 100, 200, 400, 800, and 1600. For S.S.F. (Super Shake-Free) and movie recording, the ISO can go up to 6400.

Image and Video File Formats:

Still images are saved in JPEG (Exif 2.2 compatible) and DCF compatible formats. The camera supports various image sizes:

  • 7 megapixels (3072 x 2304)
  • 3:2 (7 megapixels; 3072 x 2048)
  • 16:9 (7 megapixels; 3072 x 1728)
  • 5 megapixels (2592 x 1944)
  • 3 megapixels (2048 x 1536)
  • 2 megapixels (1600 x 1200)
  • VGA (640 x 480)

Video files are recorded in MPEG-4 AVI format with resolutions of VGA (640 x 480), 16:9 (640 x 360), QVGA (320 x 240), or CIF (160 x 128) at 30/15 frames per second with continuous recording. Audio is recorded in WAV format.

Internal Memory and Storage:

The camera has built-in 16 MB of usable internal memory. Storage can be expanded using SD/SDHC card compatible memory cards.

Playback Options:

Playback options include single image, thumbnails, slideshow, and audio/video playback. The camera also supports digital output via USB and audio/video output in NTSC/PAL formats. PictBridge compatibility allows for direct printing of images.

Other Features:

The camera includes various effects (Normal, Vivid, Sepia, Black and White), a Date Stamp function, and settings for sharpness, saturation, and contrast. Movie Record mode also features a Stabilizer function. Other settings allow for managing memory, instant review, digital zoom, system sound volume, LCD brightness, power saving, date/time format, TV format, reset, language, and version information.

Power and Connectivity:

The BenQ DC X735 is powered by a rechargeable Lithium-ion battery. It connects to a computer via a USB port and to an AV system for display on a TV or projector.

Physical Specifications:

The camera's dimensions are 91 x 59 x 14.7 mm (slimmest 12.5 mm), and it weighs 120 g (without battery & SD card). It operates within a working temperature range of 0 to 40 degrees Celsius.

System Requirements for PC Connection:

To connect to a PC, the following minimum system requirements are needed:

  • Pentium III 600 Mhz or higher compatible CPU
  • 64 MB RAM
  • Optical disc drive
  • Windows Me/2000/XP/Vista compatible
  • 128 MB free hard disk space
  • Available USB port

Usage and Maintenance:

  • Always turn off the camera before inserting or removing the battery or SD card.
  • Use only the specified battery.
  • The camera casing may become warm during operation, which is normal.
  • The LCD display has a high pixel accuracy (over 99.99%), but a small percentage of light spots or unusual colors may be present, which is normal and does not indicate malfunction.
  • Format the SD card before initial use.
  • Ensure the write-protect tab on the SD card is in the unlock position for formatting or writing data.
  • When setting the date and time, ensure accuracy as it's used for recording file capture times.
  • For optimal results with Face Tracking, subjects should not turn their faces partially away from the lens.
  • The battery status indicator provides visual cues for remaining power. Replace the battery when it's very low.
  • When selecting manual white balance, point the adjustment frame at a blank white paper or similar object and press the shutter for the camera to detect proper colors.
  • Higher ISO values increase sensitivity to light but may introduce more noise in pictures.
  • Protect important files to prevent accidental deletion.
  • The manual provides troubleshooting steps for common issues like playback problems, power issues, flash malfunctions, and memory card errors.
