The BISSELL PowerSteamer Powerbrush Select (Model 1623 Series) is a home cleaning system designed for deep cleaning carpets and hard floors. It combines hot tap water, BISSELL advanced cleaning formula, brush agitation, and suction to effectively clean various surfaces.
Function Description:
The PowerSteamer Powerbrush Select is a versatile deep cleaner that offers both floor cleaning and above-floor cleaning with attachments. Its primary function is to spray a cleaning solution onto the surface, agitate the dirt with a rotating brush, and then suction up the dirty water, leaving the surface cleaner and drier. The machine is designed to be user-friendly with features like a 2-in-1 water tank system that keeps clean and dirty water separate, and a "Ready Tools" dial for easy switching between floor and attachment cleaning modes.
Important Technical Specifications:
- Model Series: 1623 Series
- Power: Operates on a nominal 120-volt circuit.
- Grounding: Requires connection to a properly grounded wiring system with a 3-prong grounded plug.
- Cleaning Formula: Specifically designed for use with BISSELL advanced deep cleaning formulas for full-size machines. Use of non-BISSELL solutions, especially those containing lemon or pine oil, or chemical spot cleaners/solvent-based soil removers, can damage the appliance and void the warranty.
- Water Tank: Features a 2-in-1 water tank system with a heavy-duty bladder for clean water and a separate compartment for dirty water collection. The tank includes a built-in measuring cup for precise formula addition.
- Brushes: Equipped with a DirtLifter® PowerBrush with 5 cleaning rows and Edge Sweep™ Brushes for cleaning along baseboards. The DirtLifter PowerBrush has a floating suspension that self-adjusts to all carpet heights and lifts off the carpet when the machine is in the upright position.
- Hose and Attachments: Includes a flex hose and various attachments such as a 2-in-1 Crevice Tool, Tough Stain Tool, Hard Floor Tool (optional accessory), 3" Tough Stain Tool (accessory), 4" Upholstery Tool (accessory), 6" Stair Tool (accessory), Powered TurboBrush Hand Tool (accessory), Spraying, Sliding Crevice tool w/ Brush (accessory), and Spraying Crevice Tool (accessory).
- Cord: Features a Quick Release™ Cord Wrap and a cord clip.
- Handle: Ergonomically Designed Handle™ with a handle release lever.
- Wheels: Large, Easy-To-Maneuver Wheels.
- Switches: Power Switch (red) and Spray Trigger.
- Nozzle: Removable Nozzle for easy cleaning.
- Belt Access: Belt Access Door for maintenance.
Usage Features:
- Assembly: The deep cleaner comes in five easy-to-assemble components (Handle assembly, Upper body assembly, Upper hose rack, Lower body assembly, Lower hose rack) and requires only a Phillips head screwdriver.
- Pre-cleaning Steps: Before deep cleaning, users are advised to plan activities to allow carpet drying time, move furniture (optional), vacuum the area with a dry vacuum, and plan a cleaning route. Pretreating heavily soiled areas with BISSELL Tough Stain Pre-cleaner is recommended.
- Filling the Tank: The 2-in-1 tank is removed, carried like a bucket to a sink, and the lid is unlatched. Formula is added to the built-in measuring cup and poured into the bladder, followed by clean hot tap water (not boiled or microwaved). For 3X Concentrated formulas, one capful is added directly to the bladder. The lid is then replaced and secured, and the tank is placed back into the machine base.
- Carpet Cleaning: Plug in the machine, turn on the power switch (located on the back), and press the handle release lever. While pressing the spray trigger, make slow forward and backward wet passes. Release the trigger for slow forward and backward dry passes to suction up dirty water. Repeat until the solution being suctioned appears clean. Avoid overwetting.
- Ready Tools™ Dial: This dial allows users to switch between "FLOOR CLEANING" and "TOOLS" settings. In "TOOLS" mode, spray and suction are directed through the hose for above-floor cleaning.
- Cleaning with Attachments: For upholstery, check the manufacturer's tag for "W" or "WS" codes; avoid "X," "S," or "Dry Clean Only" fabrics. Test for colorfastness and check upholstery stuffing for bleeding. Attach the desired tool to the hose, press the trigger to spray, and move the tool over the soiled surface. Release the trigger to suction dirty water.
- Hard Floor Cleaning (with optional Hard Floor Tool): Vacuum or sweep the floor first. Ensure all carpet cleaning formula is rinsed from the tank. Fill the bladder with BISSELL Hard Floor Solutions Formula and clean hot tap water. Attach the hard floor tool to the bottom of the machine. Set the ReadyTools dial to "FLOOR CLEANING." Make slow wet passes with the spray trigger pressed, then dry passes without the trigger to squeegee and suction up dirty water. Do not use on unsealed hardwood floors.
- Safety Precautions: Emphasizes not immersing the unit, using only on moistened surfaces, always connecting to a grounded outlet, unplugging when not in use or before maintenance, and not using with damaged cords or plugs. Warnings against picking up hot/burning objects, flammable materials, or toxic materials are provided. A specific warning about lead in the power cord is included, advising users to wash hands after handling.
Maintenance Features:
- Emptying and Cleaning the Tank: After each use, turn off the power, unplug, and remove the 2-in-1 water tank. Dispose of collection water, remove the lid, and rinse the tank, including the bladder and lint screen, with hot tap water.
- Nozzle Cleaning: If the removable nozzle needs cleaning, it can be pulled off and rinsed under running water. Ensure it is properly reattached to maintain suction.
- Brush Roll Cleaning: Any loose hair or debris can be pulled from the brush roll and discarded.
- Attachment Cleaning: Remove attachments from the hose, rinse in clean running water, and dry before storing.
- Hose Cleaning: Suction clean water from the tap to rinse out the hose. Lift the end of the hose and stretch it out to ensure all water is cleared before wrapping it around the tool rack.
- Diverter Assembly Cleaning (if ReadyTools dial becomes difficult to turn): Remove the nozzle, locate and remove the screw holding the diverter assembly. Remove the assembly and hold it under running water, turning the dial clockwise and counter-clockwise multiple times to free up debris. Wipe and reassemble.
- Exterior Cleaning: Wipe the machine's exterior with a soft cloth.
- Post-Cleaning Vacuuming: After carpets are dry, vacuum again to remove any remaining hair and fuzz.
- Storage: Store the unit in a protected, dry area. Avoid storing where there is a danger of freezing, as freezing can damage internal components and void the warranty.
- Troubleshooting: Provides remedies for common issues such as reduced spray/no spray (empty bladder, improperly seated tank, lost pump prime, broken pump belt), DirtLifter PowerBrush not turning (broken brush or pump belt), and cleaner not picking up solution (improperly attached nozzle, improperly installed/seated tank lid, full dirty water tank, clogged lint screen). Instructions for checking and replacing belts are included, with replacement parts available through BISSELL Consumer Services.
