This document serves as a user manual for the BISSELL PowerClean Max, Model 3112F, a deep cleaning machine designed for household use. It provides comprehensive instructions for assembly, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting, ensuring users can effectively clean carpets and area rugs.
Function Description
The BISSELL PowerClean Max is a carpet and area rug deep cleaner that utilizes a combination of water and specialized cleaning formulas to remove embedded dirt, stains, and odors. It is designed to provide a thorough clean, with options for both deep cleaning and express cleaning modes. The machine features separate tanks for clean water/formula and dirty water, ensuring that clean solution is always applied to the carpet and dirty water is effectively collected. It also includes an accessory hose and tool for cleaning upholstery, stairs, and other hard-to-reach areas. The device is powered by a 220-240 volt A.C. 50-60 Hz power supply.
Usage Features
The PowerClean Max is designed for ease of use, starting with its straightforward assembly. Users simply insert the upper handle into the base until it clicks, wrap the power cable, and slide the clean water tank into place.
Before cleaning, users are advised to vacuum the area thoroughly to remove loose debris. The clean water tank is easily accessible on top of the machine and can be lifted straight up for removal. To fill, the yellow cap is unscrewed, and warm tap water (up to 140°F/60°C MAX) is added along with the appropriate BISSELL cleaning formula. The manual details specific fill lines for different cleaning formulas, including standard cleaning formulas, trial-size antibacterial formulas, and full-size antibacterial formulas with the Easy Fill System. It is crucial to use only genuine BISSELL formulas to prevent damage and voiding the warranty. Boiling water, heating the tank in a microwave, or using formulas containing eucalyptus, lemon, or pine oil should be avoided as they can damage the appliance.
Once filled, the cap is screwed back on, and the tank is aligned with the grooves on the machine before being slid into place. The machine is then plugged into a properly grounded outlet. Users can select between "Deep Clean Mode" and "Express Clean Mode" based on their cleaning needs. Deep Clean Mode provides a thorough clean, while Express Clean Mode offers a lighter clean that dries in approximately 45 minutes.
To operate, the power button is pressed to turn the machine ON. The recline pedal is pressed with a foot, and the spray trigger is held for 10 seconds to prime the system with cleaning solution. During cleaning, users make forward and backward passes, holding the spray trigger to apply solution and releasing it to suction up dirt and solution. It's important not to overwet the carpet, as continuous trigger holding can lead to this. The manual also advises against repeated strokes on Berber carpets to prevent damage.
For cleaning with the hose and tool, the accessory hose door on the front foot of the machine is lifted. The hose is inserted and snapped into place, ensuring the colored hose release clip faces outwards. The desired tool is then attached to the end of the hose. With the machine ON, the tool is held about 1 inch above the soiled surface. The spray trigger is pressed to apply cleaning solution, and then released, with downward pressure applied while pulling the tool towards the user to suction up dirt and solution. The brush roll remains active during hose and tool use, so the cleaner should not be left in one spot for an extended period to prevent floor damage. Before using tools on upholstery, users should check for colorfastness and upholstery stuffing to prevent bleeding.
Maintenance Features
Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of the PowerClean Max. After each cleaning session, the dirty water tank needs to be emptied. This involves pulling the tank up and away from the machine. For a quick empty, the rubber tab in the middle of the tank is pulled, and the tank is tilted to pour out the dirty water. All edges of the rubber tab must be sealed tightly when closing. For a more thorough clean and rinse, the ring at the bottom of the tank is unscrewed, the float stack is gently removed, rinsed, and returned, aligning the arrows to lock it in place. The red filter below the dirty water tank should also be cleaned by wiping off any remaining dirt or debris. Finally, the dirty water tank is angled back into the machine, bottom first, tilted towards the machine, and pushed until it "clicks" into place.
After-cleaning care also includes cleaning the nozzle and brush roll. To clean the nozzle, the machine is turned OFF and unplugged. The nozzle is removed from the foot by lifting the back of the accessory hose door. It is then rinsed under warm water to remove hair and debris, returned to the foot by lining up the two hooks, rotated down, and clicked into place. The accessory hose door is then closed.
For brush roll maintenance, the machine is turned OFF and unplugged, then laid on its back or side. Debris or hair is removed from the brush rolls. The manual also provides detailed instructions for replacing belts and brush rolls, which may be necessary over time. This involves removing screws from the brush access cover and belt access cover using a Phillips-head screwdriver to expose the cogged belt, flat pump belt, and brush roll. If a belt is broken, a new one can be installed by carefully stretching it around the pulleys and axles as described in the manual. The brush rolls can also be replaced or cleaned at this time.
For storage, both the dirty and clean water tanks should be emptied, rinsed, and dried. The power cable should be wrapped around the cable wrap, and the machine stored in a protected, dry area to prevent freezing, which can damage internal components. Plastic tanks are not dishwasher safe.
The manual also includes a troubleshooting section to address common issues such as reduced spray, no spray, loss of suction, or no power, offering possible causes and remedies. For any servicing beyond these instructions, users are advised to contact an authorized service representative.
