Overview

This document is a user manual for the Black Box DIN Rail Fiber Enclosure, models JPM397A and JPM398A. It provides detailed information on the device's specifications, overview, pre-installation steps, and installation procedures.

Function Description

The DIN Rail Fiber Enclosure is a flexible and cost-effective solution designed for fiber terminations in various environments, including open external walls or manufacturing floors. It is a small, steel-constructed enclosure that supports either one or two LGX fiber adapter panels. The enclosure features a side door with thumbscrews for easy access to its interior, facilitating installation and maintenance. Its design incorporates multiple DIN rail mounting options and three bulk fiber points of entry, offering significant flexibility in deployment.

Important Technical Specifications

The manual details specifications for two models: JPM398A (1-port) and JPM397A (2-port).

JPM398A (1-Port) Specifications:

  • Dimensions: 2.01" H x 5.31" W x 5.51" D (5.1 x 13.5 x 14 cm)
  • Weight: 1.15 lb. (0.52 kg)
  • Metal Thickness: 18-gauge (1.0 mm)
  • Color: Black
  • Cable Grommet Range: 4.0 mm to 8.0 mm
  • Fiber Adapter Ports: One

JPM397A (2-Port) Specifications:

  • Dimensions: 3.93" H x 5.31" W x 5.51" D (10.0 x 13.5 x 14 cm)
  • Weight: 2.0 lb. (0.907 kg)
  • Metal Thickness: 18-gauge (1.0 mm)
  • Color: Black
  • Cable Grommet Range: 4.0 mm to 8.0 mm
  • Fiber Adapter Ports: Two

Both models are constructed from 18-gauge (1.0 mm) steel and are black in color. They accommodate bulk fiber cables with a diameter range of 4.0 mm to 8.0 mm.

Usage Features

The DIN Rail Fiber Enclosure offers several features that enhance its usability and adaptability:

  • Flexible Mounting Options: The enclosure comes with a DIN rail bracket pre-installed on the rear. Users can relocate this bracket to the top, bottom, or back side of the enclosure to suit different mounting requirements.
  • Optional Mounting Solutions:
    • Magnetic Bracket (ACC-MAGBRKT, sold separately): This bracket uses four high-power rare earth magnets with a rubber-coated base, providing strong holding power for mounting on metal surfaces. For the 1-port enclosure, it can be used for flush mounting on the side. For the 2-port enclosure, it can be used for flush mounting on the side and the rear side opposite the fiber ports.
    • "L"-shaped Adapter Bracket (included): This bracket is designed for non-DIN rail mounting installations, such as relay racks or cabinets. It features oversized cup head holes for flexible mounting. For the 1-port enclosure, it can be used for flush mounting on the side and the rear side opposite the fiber ports. For the 2-port enclosure, it can be used on all sides in various locations. Note that the "L"-shaped bracket cannot be installed on the top or bottom of the one-port enclosure.
  • Multiple Bulk Fiber Entry Points: The enclosure provides three points of entry for incoming bulk fiber cables. From the factory, one point at the bottom is open, while others are plugged. Users can relocate the angled bracket, grommet, and Kevlar® clamp to an alternate entry point as needed.
  • Easy Access: The side door, secured by thumbscrews, allows for easy access to the enclosure's interior for installation and maintenance of fiber terminations.
  • Cable Management: The package includes stick-on cable organizers (four 1" x 1½") and cable ties (five 4-inch, ten 3-inch) to help keep fiber strands neat and manageable inside the enclosure, especially when creating service loops for slack.
  • LGX Fiber Adapter Panel Compatibility: The enclosure is designed to accept only LGX style fiber adapter panels, ensuring compatibility with standard fiber components.

Maintenance Features

The design of the DIN Rail Fiber Enclosure incorporates features that facilitate maintenance:

  • Tool-less Access (Thumbscrews): The side door uses thumbscrews, allowing for quick and easy access to the enclosure's interior without the need for specialized tools. This simplifies tasks such as inspecting connections, re-terminating fibers, or reorganizing cables.
  • Relocatable Components: The bulk fiber entry bracket, grommet, and Kevlar® clamp can be easily loosened and relocated to different entry points. This flexibility allows for reconfiguring cable entry as network requirements change or for easier access during maintenance.
  • Internal Cable Management: The included stick-on cable organizers and cable ties help maintain an organized internal environment. This organization is crucial for efficient troubleshooting and minimizes the risk of damage to fiber strands during maintenance activities.
  • Secure Fiber Retention: The Kevlar® clamp and grommet nut system securely holds the bulk fiber cable, preventing stress on the internal fiber connections. This design ensures that the fiber terminations remain stable and protected, reducing the need for frequent adjustments or repairs.
  • Clear Installation Steps: The manual provides clear, step-by-step instructions for mounting, cabling, and terminating fiber, which helps ensure correct initial setup and simplifies any future modifications or repairs.

The device is supported by 24/7 technical assistance, available at 1.877.877.2269 or via blackbox.com, ensuring users can get help with any issues that may arise during installation or operation.
