Overview

This document describes the Blackstone 3 Burner Griddle, Model 6301, a natural gas-ready drop-in appliance with a hood, designed for outdoor domestic use.

Function Description:

The Blackstone 3 Burner Griddle is an outdoor cooking appliance that uses natural gas to heat a griddle top for various cooking tasks. It features three independent burners, allowing for versatile temperature control across the cooking surface. The "drop-in" design suggests it is intended to be integrated into an outdoor cabinet or structure, providing a built-in cooking solution. The included hood offers protection for the griddle top when not in use and may assist in heat retention during cooking.

    • Hole Minimum from Front: 5.05 in (12.83 cm)
    • Hole Minimum Diameter: 4.33 in (10.93 cm)
  • Natural Gas Supply: Fixed fuel piping system must use rigid pipe, semi-rigid tubing, or a connector compliant with ANSI Z21.75 CSA 6.27.
  • Water Column Pressure: 7 inches
  • Electrical Grounding: Must conform with local codes or NFPA 70 Canadian Electrical Code, Part I. Requires a Ground Fault Interrupter (GFI) protected circuit.
  • Ignition System: Electric ignition with control knobs that light up (white for gas flow, flashing blue for starter, orange for desired temperature). A disconnected knob magnet results in an orange indicator light.

Usage Features:

  • Assembly: Requires two people due to heavy pieces. A #3 Phillips head screwdriver is needed. Key steps include attaching the hood handle, sliding in the grease cup, installing control knobs, attaching the PCB box, and placing the griddle body onto the cabinet.
  • Natural Gas Connection: Involves attaching the natural gas hose swivel fitting to the appliance, connecting the quick connect fitting to the gas supply (pulling back the locking collar, pushing the male fitting in, then releasing), and performing a leak test with a soap and water solution.
  • Ignition: Turn knobs to OFF, push in and release (should spring back), then rotate to LOW and back to OFF (should turn smoothly). For electric ignition, press the ON button, push in the control knob (white light), turn counter-clockwise (flashing blue light), and check the flame (orange light). Manual match lighting instructions are also provided.
  • Burner Flame Check: Before use, light burners and rotate knobs from HIGH to LOW. Observe flames from below the cooking surface; HIGH flames should be larger than LOW flames. A healthy flame pattern shows flickers of yellow, dark blue, and vibrant blue. Yellow or irregular flames, or sudden drops in flame height, indicate potential issues.
  • Griddle Seasoning:
    • First Use: Wash the griddle cooking surface with hot, soapy water, then rinse and dry completely. This is the only time soap should be used.
    • Seasoning Process: Wipe debris, heat griddle to high until color changes (~10 min). Spread 2-3 tablespoons of seasoning oil (Blackstone Seasoning and Cast Iron Conditioner, plant-based cooking oil, or rendered animal fat recommended) thinly and evenly with paper towels/cloth. Repeat 3-4 times until the surface is black and stops smoking.
    • Rust Prevention: Use the griddle frequently. If rust appears, rub it off with steel wool, low-grit sandpaper, or a Blackstone Pumice Stone, then re-season.
  • Cooking: Use long-handled utensils and oven mitts/protective gloves.
  • Grease Management: Features a grease cup that slides into a holder on the back of the griddle body. The grease cup must be removed and emptied after each use, but only after the griddle has completely cooled.
  • Safety Warnings:
    • Never operate unattended.
    • Do not attempt to extinguish oil/grease fires with water.
    • Do not store or use flammable liquids/vapors near the appliance.
    • Do not store an unconnected LPG cylinder near the appliance.
    • Do not use inside buildings, garages, boats, or recreational vehicles.
    • Maintain proper clearances from combustible materials (36 in / 1 m from sides/back without insulating jacket; 6 in / 150 mm with insulating jacket).
    • The cover/lid/hood MUST be open/removed when in use.
    • If gas odor is detected, shut off gas, extinguish flames, open hood, and call gas supplier/fire department.
    • Clogged burners can cause fires underneath the appliance.
    • Flammable items can combust if placed near the appliance.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning Griddle Top: Clean after each use while still warm. Do NOT use soap. Push loose debris into the grease cup, wipe with paper towel, apply water and scrape debris into grease cup (use coarse salt for stuck-on residue), wipe dry, and apply a thin coat of cooking oil.
  • Appliance Body Cleaning: Wash with warm soapy water and wipe dry with a non-abrasive cloth. Do NOT use abrasive pads on graphics, Citrisol, abrasive cleaners, or concentrated cleaners.
  • Burner Assembly Cleaning: Perform at least once a month, especially when spiders are active or after periods of non-use, to reduce "flash-back" risk.
    • Ensure gas is OFF and remove the griddle top.
    • Detach and remove the burner.
    • Clean the inside of the burner by running a bottle brush or stiff wire through burner tubes several times.
    • Use compressed air to blow through burner tubes and ports (wear eye protection).
    • Brush the entire outer surface of the burner to remove grime.
    • Clean blocked ports with a stiff wire (e.g., paper clip).
    • Carefully replace burners, paying attention to the ignition needle's location and ensuring the gas rail fuel nozzle is re-engaged.
  • Storage: Store indoors only if the gas supply is disconnected and removed. Allow the appliance to cool to 115°F (45°C) before moving or storing. Cover the appliance when stored outdoors.
  • Troubleshooting: Includes sections for ignition issues (burner won't ignite, ignitor wire misalignment, damage to ignition system) and gas flow issues (appliance not achieving high heat, uneven heating, yellow/irregular flames, flame height drops, flames not extending full length, flame coming from air gate, obstructions). Provides solutions such as cleaning burners, jets, gas hose, and contacting customer support for parts.
  • Control Knob PCB Replacement: Instructions are provided for replacing the printed circuit board (PCB) if a control knob malfunctions. This involves removing the knob, bezel, disconnecting the old PCB, and connecting a new one.
