Overview

The Blaupunkt Wireless Outdoor Bell Box (BX-S1) is a security device designed to provide audible and visual alarm indications for a control panel system. It features a robust design suitable for outdoor installation and incorporates various functionalities to enhance home security.

Function Description

The BX-S1 serves as an external alarm indicator, producing a siren sound and flashing strobe light when triggered by a connected control panel. It includes a Tamper Switch that activates an alarm if the device is opened or removed from its mounting surface, ensuring protection against unauthorized tampering.

The device's Function Switch Block contains seven DIP switches, allowing users to configure various operational parameters. These include:

  • Siren Learning (SW1): Enables the bell box to enter a learn-in mode for pairing with a control panel.
  • Strobe Activation (SW2): Determines when the strobe light flashes. It can be set to flash only during the siren alarm period or continuously until the alarm is disarmed.
  • Siren Duration (SW3 & SW4): Configures the length of the siren alarm, with options for 3, 5, or 10 minutes, or a 1-second test.
  • Reserved (SW5): This switch is reserved for future functionalities.
  • Memory Reset (SW6): Allows clearing of the device's memory.
  • Supervision (SW7): Enables or disables the supervision function, which allows the control panel to monitor the bell box's status.

The bell box is equipped with LEDs (LED 1 & 3) that provide visual feedback during learning mode and other operations.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Power Source: Four 1.5V D alkaline batteries.
  • Siren Output: Minimum of 104 dBA sound pressure at 1 meter range.
  • Radio Frequency: 868 MHz.
  • Environmental Conditions: Operates within a temperature range of -10°C to 40°C and relative humidity of 85% (non-condensing).
  • Mounting: Features four mounting holes on the back cover for wall installation.

Usage Features

Learning Mode: To pair the BX-S1 with a control panel:

  1. Open the front cover and locate the Function Switch Block.
  2. Set DIP SW3 & SW4 to the desired alarm length.
  3. Enter learning mode on your control panel.
  4. Slide the Power Switch to ON.
  5. Slide DIP SW1 to the ON position. LED 1 & 3 will flash once with a short beep, indicating learning mode. After 3 seconds, the bell box sends a learning code, confirmed by LED 1 & 3 flashing once.
  6. If the control panel receives the signal, it will send a confirmation signal to the bell box, which responds with a short beep and LED 1 & 3 flashing once, indicating successful learning.
  7. If learning fails, slide DIP SW1 back to OFF and then ON again to re-enter learning mode.
  8. Slide DIP SW1 to OFF to exit learning mode. The bell box will automatically exit learning mode after one hour if not manually switched off.

Siren Audible Performance:

  • Burglar and Panic Alarms: Continuous alarm sound.
  • Fire / Water Alarms: Intermittent alarm sound (2-second siren followed by a 1-second interval).
  • The siren is silenced when the programmed duration expires or when the control panel is disarmed.

Strobe (LED) Light:

  • Flashes when the bell box is alarming.
  • The duration of strobe light flash is determined by DIP SW2 setting. If SW2 is OFF, the strobe light flashes according to the alarm length set by SW3 and SW4. If SW2 is ON, the strobe light flashes until the control panel is disarmed.

Audio & Visual Status Indication Table: The bell box provides distinct audio and visual cues for various system statuses:

  • Arm/Home: 1 beep* (siren), 3 LED flashes at once (strobe).
  • Disarm: 2 beeps* (siren), sequentially flashes for 1 cycle (strobe).
  • Arm (Low Battery): 5 beeps (siren), 3 LED flashes for three times (strobe).
  • Disarm (Low Battery): 5 beeps (siren), sequentially flashes for 2 cycles (strobe).
  • Arm (Tamper): 5 beeps (siren), 3 LED flashes for three times (strobe).
  • Disarm (Tamper): 2 beeps* (siren), sequentially flashes for 2 cycles (strobe).
  • Previous alarm warning: 3 secs beep (siren), sequentially flashes for 2 cycles (strobe).
  • Tamper Alarm: Continuous beeps (siren), sequentially flashes (strobe).
  • Entry/Exit Sound: Count-down beeps (siren), no strobe.
  • *Siren Audio indication may be affected by the Confirmation ON / OFF setting in the Control Panel.

Maintenance Features

Battery Replacement: The BX-S1 includes a low battery detection function that notifies the control panel when battery voltage is low. To replace batteries:

  1. Temporarily disable the bell box's tamper protection function via the control panel. The bell box will beep to confirm.
  2. Remove the front cover.
  3. Remove the four screws securing the battery compartment and take off the lid.
  4. Remove old batteries and press the Tamper Switch twice to discharge residual power.
  5. Insert new D cell alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity. The bell box will emit beeps and flash when the last battery is inserted.
  6. Replace the battery compartment lid and front cover.
  7. Enable the tamper protection function through the control panel. The bell box will beep to confirm.

Installation:

  • Mount the bell box on an external wall in a prominent location, as high as possible for optimal reach.
  • Before installation, it is recommended to temporarily disable the Siren Tamper function on the control panel to prevent accidental alarm triggers.
  • Ensure the tamper switch is properly compressed against the wall and the front cover is secured with the screw after installation.

The BX-S1 is a reliable and feature-rich outdoor bell box designed to integrate seamlessly with Blaupunkt control panel systems, providing clear and effective alarm indications.
