Overview

The Blaupunkt Key Largo 970 is a car multimedia head unit featuring a brilliant capacitive display and running on Android OS Version 9.0. This device offers a comprehensive range of functions for entertainment, navigation, and communication, designed to enhance the in-car experience.

Function Description

The head unit's main interface, accessible by touching the "Home" button, provides quick access to various sources and operating modes. Users can switch the device on or off by touching the power button on the panel. The unit also supports ignition switch control, turning on when the ignition is in the ACC ON position and off with a light press of the power button when the unit is already on.

Volume control is intuitive, allowing adjustments from 0 (minimum) to 40 (maximum) by touching the '+' and '-' buttons. The device can be muted by lightly touching the mute icon while music is playing, and long-pressing the mute button will unmute or return to the previous volume.

Radio Function

The radio function allows users to enjoy radio on the go. By touching the "Radio" icon in the main interface, users can access the radio interface. The device supports FM1, FM2, FM3, AM1, and AM2 bands, with up to 6 stations storable in each memory bank.

  • Tuning into a station: Users can change the frequency in increments by briefly pressing the '◄◄' or '►' buttons. Direct frequency selection is possible by dragging the blue indicator on the frequency bar. Long-pressing these buttons initiates a station seek tuning.
  • Storing stations manually: This involves selecting the desired memory bank, setting the station, and then long-pressing one of the memory buttons for approximately 2 seconds.
  • Scanning stations: The scan function plays all receivable stations of the current waveband for a few seconds. Long-pressing the '◄◄' or '►' buttons initiates seek tuning.
  • Auto Seek and Store: Long-pressing the auto seek icon will automatically search for and store stations. The system can store 18 FM stations (6 in each FM1/FM2/FM3 band) and 12 AM stations (6 in each AM1/AM2 band).

Sound Settings

The device offers comprehensive sound settings, including an equalizer and audio distribution controls.

  • Equalizer settings: Accessible from the main menu or the control bar, the 10-band equalizer allows fine-tuning of sound to suit individual taste. It offers 6 presets (Custom, Club, Classical, Jazz, Flat, Rock, Pop) and a 'Custom' setting for personalized adjustments.
  • Audio distribution (fader/balance): The BAL/FAD/SUB control allows adjustment of balance (Left-Right) and fader (Front-Rear) bands. Users can touch a white dot to adjust preference or use arrow keys.

The Key Largo 970 is equipped with on-board navigation. Users need to insert an mSD card (sold separately) into the map slot and input their destination. The system provides turn-by-turn voice-guided commands.

  • Navigation settings: Five icons enhance the navigation experience: "Take Me Home" (auto-detects location and plans a route back home), "Route" (shows trip starts), "Favorites" (saves frequently traveled locations), "History" (shows trip history), and "Settings" (general navigation settings).
  • Destination input: Users can enter destinations using input keys. Once set, the system plans the route and begins navigation.

Phone Feature (Bluetooth)

The device supports hands-free calling via Bluetooth, which is a safety feature to minimize distraction while driving.

  • Making a call: After pairing a mobile phone, users can input numbers via the on-screen numeric buttons and tap the call icon. The device also supports direct mobile dialing. Mute mode can be activated by tapping the mute icon.
  • Answering a call: When an incoming call is received, the system automatically switches to the Bluetooth interface, allowing users to answer or refuse the call.
  • View Call History: The call history interface displays incoming, outgoing, and missed calls.
  • View Phone Book: The phone book interface displays contacts downloaded from the paired mobile phone.

Bluetooth Music Function

This feature allows users to stream music directly from their mobile devices to the radio. The "Bluetooth music" icon in the main interface provides access to this function.

USB Data Carrier

The device features two rear USB ports (Type A): one for quick charging (up to 2A) and another via a patch harness (up to 1.5A).

  • Audio playback from USB: Supports MP3, M4A, WAV, AMR, WMA, OGG, AAC, MID, etc. Users select the USB source from the main menu, and playback begins.
  • Video playback from USB: For safety, video playback on the integrated monitor is only allowed when the vehicle is parked and the handbrake is applied. Movie playback on a Rear Seat Monitor is possible while driving.
  • Pictures: Users can view pictures saved on USB and other collaborative locations by clicking the "Pictures" icon.

The PhoneLINK feature mirrors the phone screen on the head unit, supporting Android and iOS phones. This allows access to apps, emails, and messages while on the go.

  • iPhone PhoneLINK operation: Involves turning on the iPhone hotspot, connecting the unit's Wi-Fi to the hotspot, and using Airplay - EC - Mirror to activate screen mirroring.
  • Android PhoneLINK: Connects the Android smartphone via a data cable, enabling viewing of smartphone images, playing music, navigating, accessing contacts and apps, and checking emails/messages on the radio display.

File Manager

The "File Explorer" icon allows users to browse content from files stored on the device, including those on an SD card.

Aux-In

The AUX-IN interface is accessed by connecting video RCA to the video input socket and audio RCAs (L+R) to the audio input RCAs, then tapping the "AUX-IN" icon.

  • Cleaning: The unit should be cleaned with a dry or slightly moistened cloth. Solvents, cleaning agents, or dashboard sprays that could damage the surface or screen should be avoided.
  • Software Updates: The device runs on Android OS Version 9.0, and new phone software versions in the future may or may not be compatible. In-warranty replacement is not applicable for non-compatibility issues arising from new phone software.
  • Troubleshooting: In case of issues, users are advised to visit the nearest service center. Unauthorized modifications or opening of the device are not permitted.
  • Battery Preservation: To prevent battery drain, the car audio should not be used for extended periods after the car engine is off.
  • Installation: Installation should ideally be performed by an authorized specialist, especially if the user is not experienced with car audio systems and vehicle electrical systems. The connection diagram at the end of the manual provides guidance for self-installation if the user has the necessary tools and expertise.
  • Warranty Registration: To activate the 2-year manufacturer's warranty, users must register online within 15 days of purchase by following the SMS-based registration process outlined in the manual.

The device emphasizes road safety, advising against watching videos or using other apps while the vehicle is in motion, and recommending that such activities only be performed when the vehicle is parked with the handbrake activated. It also prioritizes traffic regulations over navigation recommendations and encourages listening at moderate volumes to hear warning signals.
