Overview

This document is an operational manual for the BLUEROCK® Tools SDS200 Sectional Drain Cleaning Machine, identified as Volume 1.4.

The SDS200 is a heavy-duty professional-use machine designed for cleaning the insides of drainpipes ranging from 2" to 8" (50mm-200mm) in diameter. It utilizes individual 16' (4.6M) sections of cleaning cable, which can be added or subtracted during operations. The maximum recommended run-out for the cable is 165' (50M).

Technical Specifications:

  • Electrical Data:
    • Voltage: 110V, 60Hz Induction Motor

  • Rubber Safety Hose (1)
  • Cable Bits/Drills (6)
  • Bit Key (1)
  • Accessory Case (1)

Usage Features:

The machine is designed for pre-assembly, requiring the user only to remove it from the shipping crate. It features a main on/off switch with forward ("R") and reverse ("L") positions, and an "O" for off. The motor drives a clutch rotationally. To engage the clutch, the user pulls the clutch handle down; releasing it stops the rotation. The manual emphasizes that sectional drain cleaners do not spin the cable in/out automatically; sections must be individually connected and manually fed to the clog. Once the cleaner reaches the clog, the clutch is engaged to spin the cutter.

Safety Precautions (Pre-Operational and Operational):

  • Personal Protective Equipment: Safety glasses (full face mask recommended), appropriate footwear, contained long hair, close-fitting/protective clothing, safety gloves (not loose-fitting), and hearing protection are mandatory.
  • Machine Checks: Examine power cord, plug, machine body, cable, and cutters for damage. Ensure the on/off switch is in the off position before plugging in.
  • Work Area: Operate only by qualified personnel who have read instructions. Ensure non-essential people are clear, keep body parts, clothing, and power cords clear of turning pieces. Maintain a clean, brightly illuminated, dry, and stable work area.
  • Cable Handling: Do not grasp turning cable with rags or loose-fitting gloves. Always wear gloves. Do not use cable exceeding 165' (50M). Avoid overrunning the cable into large spaces (e.g., main sewer pipes or septic tanks) to prevent knotting.
  • Cutter Installation: Cutters attach to the front end of the cable. They install in one direction, pushing until the pin locks. A key is used for removal.
  • GFCI: Always use a user-provided functioning GFCI circuit.
  • Extension Cords: Be mindful of voltage drop with long, small-gauge extension cords. Use outdoor cords in wet locations.
  • Chemicals: Be extremely careful when cleaning drains where chemical compounds have been previously used.
  • Electrical Hazards: Guard against electric shock, prevent body contact with grounded surfaces, and use insulated protection devices in wet environments. Do not remove the grounding plug.
  • Machine Operation: Do not make adjustments while running. Do not leave running when not in use. Do not hold drainpipe by hand or body; mechanically clamp or secure workpieces. Do not allow liquids or dust into ventilation. Do not operate outside specifications. Do not touch moving parts. Do not remove panels while connected to power. Do not allow children or untrained personnel to operate. Do not use in rain or wet environments. Do not operate in the presence of explosive materials or on pipes with live electrical wires. Do not use if the ON/OFF switch is broken. Do not operate on the same surface as welding. Do not operate on lower voltage.
  • Clutch Operations: Pull the clutch handle down to engage, release to disengage. A quick action is preferred to prevent wear.
  • Rubber Safety Hose: Must be installed at the back of the clutch channel to protect against cable whipping.
  • Cutter Selection: Choose a cutter at least 1" smaller than the drainpipe. The style depends on job needs and user experience. Various cutters are available for different blockages (e.g., Straight Helical for exploring, Olive Shaped for guiding, Funnel Shaped for residue, Collection Helical for broken cable/drill, 4 Edge Saw for hard materials, Spade Shaped for grease/gunk, Helical Cutter Saw for roots/debris, C-Shaped for cream/soap).
  • Feeding Cable: Feed cable into the front of the machine, ensuring it goes into the clutch carriage. Leave about 1 foot remaining at the front. Do not couple more than one cable section at a time.
  • Obstruction Handling: If overloaded, relieve tension with short jerking motions. Advance slowly. Do not force the cable. If stuck, try the "L" reverse position (only for freeing, not for general operation, and only after the motor has stopped).
  • Retrieving Cable: Leave the machine in "R" forward cutting position, engage the clutch, pull cable out with gloved hand until a half circle forms. Release clutch, push excess cable back through the machine, disconnecting sections as they come out. Reinsert sections into the cable carrier.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Maintenance:
    • Inspect electrical cords and connections.
    • Keep machine clean and free of debris.
    • Flush cables with water after each use; occasionally lubricate cables and couplings.
    • Check for misalignment, binding, and breakage of moving parts.
    • Check cutters for sharpness or damage.
    • Clean clutch teeth with a wire brush; check attrition on the 3-jaw clutch and replace if worn.
    • After each use, coat all moving parts (including clutch driver) with corrosion-resistant oil.
  • Occasional Maintenance:
    • Check brushes for wear and replace if worn.
    • Grease rocker arms and main bearings every 3-6 months.
    • Grease main bearings through the grease fitting inside the clutch handle slot.
    • Clutch Jaws Replacement: Remove front guard and nosepiece screws, slide out clutch driver, replace jaws, and reassemble. (WARNING: Do not operate without guards).
    • V-Belt Tightening: Remove V-Belt Guard, loosen locknut, turn bolt until V-Belt tightens, then tighten locknut and replace guard.

Servicing should only be done by a qualified technician, and the unit must be unplugged prior to any service.
