Support by electric motor
Principle
The internal combustion engine provides the
main driving power.
The electric motor assists with additional drive
power if needed.
eASSIST
In normal drive operation, the electric motor sup‐
ports the internal combustion engine depending
on the situation.
eBOOST
With increased acceleration – when overtaking,
for example – the maximum available power of
the electric motor is called on. To do this, press
the accelerator pedal firmly.
Anticipatory hybrid drive
Principle
The system makes it possible to distribute the
available electrical energy as effectively as possi‐
ble so that electric driving can take place in urban
areas and in the destination when the navigation
system route guidance is active. If the high-volt‐
age battery is sufficiently charged, additional
route sections for electric driving are selected.
General
Downward gradients, for example, are taken into
account for efficient energy recuperation purpo‐
ses.
The internal combustion engine is automatically
activated or deactivated depending on the route
section, which supports an efficient driving style
and emission-free driving in urban areas.
For further information:
Using the hybrid system efficiently, see
page 349.
Operating requirements
Selector lever position D engaged.
Route guidance active.
HYBRID STANDARD, HYBRID ECO PRO,
HYBRID COMFORT or ADAPTIVE activated,
depending on equipment.

Display
An example: built-up area. Preparations are made
for electric driving before a built-up area is
reached. When the built-up area is reached,
electric driving is switched to automatically.
Other situations are also shown on the Control
Display:
Downward gradient: electric driving takes
place and the high-voltage battery is charged
on the downward gradient.
Target area: electric driving takes precedence
in the target area.
