Malfunctions
The remote control may malfunction as a result
of interference from local radio signals. If this
occurs, unlock and lock the car at the door lock
with the integrated key.
If the car does not have an alarm system
*
or
convenient access
*
, only the driver's door can
be unlocked and locked at the door lock by
means of the integrated key.
If the car can no longer be locked with a remote
control, the battery in the remote control is flat.
Use this remote control for a longer journey so
that the battery is recharged, see page 24. The
remote control for convenient access contains
a battery that might have to be replaced, see
page 32.
Opening and closing:
Via the door lock
You can set the way in which the car is
unlocked, see page 25.
Do not lock the car from the outside when
there is someone inside it, as it cannot
then be unlocked from the inside in some
national-market versions and with certain spe-
cial equipment.<
In some national-market versions, the
alarm system
*
is triggered when the car
is unlocked via the door lock.
To switch off the alarm:
Unlock the car with the remote control, see
page 25, or insert the remote control fully into
the ignition lock.<

If the car is not fitted with an alarm sys-
tem
*
or convenient access
*
, only the
driver's door can be locked at the door lock.<
To lock all the doors, the fuel filler flap and the
tailgate together:
1. With the doors closed, lock the car by
means of the central locking button in the
passenger compartment, see page 28.
2. Unlock and open the driver's or the front
passenger's door, see page 28.
3. Lock the car.
> Lock the driver's door at the door lock,
using the integrated key, or
> press down the safety lock button of the
front passenger's door and close the
door from outside.
Convenient operation*
With the alarm system
*
or convenient access
*
,
you can also use the door lock to operate the
windows and glass roof.
Hold the key in the position for unlocking or
locking.
Watch the closing movement to ensure
that no one is trapped. The movement is
stopped when the key is released.<
Manual operation
In the event of an electrical fault, you can lock
and unlock the driver's door by turning the inte-
grated key to the limit positions in the door lock.
