1200 Mile Service
The engine in your BMW M5 and M6 is a race-
bred engine design which includes increased
power output and maximum engine speeds
compared to conventional BMW 5 and 6 Series
engines. The increased power output also
affects other major drivetrain components such
as the transmission and the rear axle differential.
The 1200 Mile Service requires changing the oil
in the engine, as well as in the transmission and
the differential. The engine air cleaner element
must also be replaced during this service
operation.
Quality Certification I
For a detailed list of items inspected, refer to the
Quality Certification I form provided to the
Owner at time of delivery. A copy of the form is
on file at the selling BMW center.
Maintenance summary
The Condition Based Service (CBS) system will
determine the requirement for performance of
the maintenance services described on this and
the following page. These services may be
required either individually or in conjunction with
other maintenance services.
Standard operations
Maintenance work:
䉯 Brief diagnostic test
䉯 Verify Check Control messages
䉯 Check indicator and warning lights
䉯 Reset CBS display
Engine oil
Maintenance work:
䉯 Change the engine oil and oil filter. Use only
Castrol TWS Motorsport 10W-60 Synthetic
Oil P/N 07 51 0 009 420.
䉯 At the 1st and then every 3rd oil change:
– Change the SMG gear oil, clean the oil filter
– Change the differential oil
䉯 At every 3rd oil change:
– Replace the engine air cleaner element.
䉯 Parking brake: check function
Microfilter (not displayed in the CBS)
Maintenance work:
䉯 Replace ventilation microfilter
Front brake
Maintenance work:
䉯 Replace brake pads, clean brake pad contact
points in calipers.
䉯 Brake discs: Check surface and thickness, if
necessary replace at extra charge*.
Rear brake
Maintenance work:
䉯 Replace brake pads, clean brake pad contact
points in calipers.
䉯 Brake discs: Check surface and thickness, if
necessary replace at extra charge*.
䉯 Parking brake: Check condition, brake lining
thickness and function, if necessary replace
at extra charge*.
