Overview

The Dustin™ is an autonomous robotic vacuum cleaner designed to provide intelligent floor cleaning. It utilizes laser vision, a network of sensors, and state-of-the-art mapping and localizing technology to detect walls, furniture, and obstacles, creating a customized cleaning plan for your home.

Function Description:

Dustin's primary function is to autonomously vacuum and mop floors. It is equipped with a SLAM LIDAR sensor for mapping, which allows it to navigate and clean efficiently. The device connects to Wi-Fi, enabling control and customization through the bObsweep app. After cleaning, Dustin automatically returns to its self-emptying charging station to empty its dustbin, providing weeks of clean floors without manual intervention.

Usage Features:

  • Intelligent Navigation and Mapping: Dustin uses laser vision and sensors to create a detailed map of your home. This map can be viewed and customized through the bObsweep app.
  • Customizable Cleaning Plans: The bObsweep app allows you to define room types, cleaning zones, NoSweep™ zones (areas to avoid vacuuming), NoMop zones (areas to avoid mopping), and implement Room-to-Room™ cleaning.
  • Scheduled Cleaning: You can set cleaning schedules via the app, allowing Dustin to clean at your convenience.
  • Self-Emptying: Upon returning to its charging station after a cleaning cycle, Dustin automatically empties its dustbin into the station's container. The frequency of self-emptying can be defined in the app's "Cleaning Preferences."
  • Wet Mopping Attachment: Dustin includes a wet mop attachment for mopping hard water areas, using distilled water. When the mop attachment is connected, Dustin will automatically avoid NoMop zones.
  • Obstacle Handling: Dustin is designed to navigate around furniture and obstacles. For challenging areas, you can adjust furniture or add NoSweep™ zones.
  • Dark Carpet Management: If Dustin encounters issues with dark-colored carpets (e.g., backing up repeatedly or displaying trouble messages), its edge sensors can be deactivated via the bObsweep app. However, it's crucial to note that deactivating edge sensors means Dustin will not detect edges or stairs and may fall. In such cases, adding a NoSweep line is recommended for safety.
  • Shag Carpet Handling: For shag carpets or rugs with long fibers, the main brush can be removed to allow Dustin to vacuum without getting tangled.
  • Wi-Fi Connectivity: Connect Dustin to Wi-Fi to access its full suite of features, software updates, and integrate with smart home devices like Amazon Alexa or Google Home.
  • Display Screen & Buttons: Dustin features a display screen and buttons for direct interaction. The "GO" button starts/pauses cleaning and powers the device on/off. The "CHARGE" button sends Dustin to the station for charging or initiates self-emptying. The "Wi-Fi" button initiates Wi-Fi search. Indicators for cleaning status, battery level, charging status, sound, Wi-Fi connection, and trouble alerts are also present.
  • Low Power Standby (LPS) Mode: For extended storage, Dustin can be put into LPS mode by placing it on the charging station and holding the CHARGE button for 5 seconds. This mode disconnects Dustin from Wi-Fi and pauses scheduled cleaning.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is crucial for Dustin's optimal performance.

  • Power Off Before Maintenance: Always power off Dustin and remove it from its power source before performing any maintenance.
  • Dustbin: The dustbin should be cleaned monthly. After cleaning, Dustin returns to its self-emptying charging station, which contains a dust bag. The dust bag should be lifted and removed when full, and a new one inserted. The dustbag container and disposal vent should also be cleaned to ensure free airflow.
  • Filters: Filters should be replaced every 6 months and cleaned monthly.
  • Brushes: Brushes should be cleaned weekly. This involves pulling up and removing the side brush to clear debris from it and its socket. The main brush requires pinching tabs on its gate to lift and remove it, then cleaning the brush, gate, and compartment. Tweezers or the included cleaning tool can be used to remove hair and debris.
  • Sensors: Sensors should be wiped weekly with a soft cotton cloth. This includes edge and wall sensors, charging nodes on Dustin and its station, metal connectors on the dustbin and wet mop attachment, and the area around the SLAM LIDAR.
  • Front Wheel: The front wheel should be cleaned weekly. Use a flat head screwdriver to pry out the wheel assembly, clean all components, and then push them back into place.
  • Battery: The battery should be replaced every 24 to 36 months. To replace, power off Dustin, use a Phillips head screwdriver to open the battery compartment, unplug the old battery, and plug in the new one.
  • Mop Attachment: After use, the mop attachment reservoir should be drained to prevent water damage. The microfiber mop cloth should be washed and air-dried.
  • Troubleshooting: If Dustin encounters an issue, its trouble indicator will blink, and details can be found in the bObsweep app. A "Home Checkup Test" can be performed to diagnose specific problems, testing components like the battery, sensors, charging station, bumpers, Wi-Fi, motors, SLAM LIDAR, and self-empty function.
  • Software Updates: Keep Dustin's software and the bObsweep app updated to access the latest features and improvements.
