This unit is equipped with an internal combustion engine and should not be used on or near any unimproved forest-
covered, brush-covered or grass-covered land unless the engine’s exhaust system is equipped with a spark arrester meeting
applicable local or state laws (if any). If a spark arrester is used, it should be maintained in effective working order by the operator.
In the State of California the above is required by law (Section 4442 of the California Public Resources Code). Other states may have
similar laws. Federal laws apply on federal lands. A spark arrester for the muffler is available through your nearest engine authorized
service dealer or contact the service department, P.O. Box 361131 Cleveland, Ohio 44136-0019.

General Operation Safety

Read manual, be familiar with controls, keep manual safe, exercise caution, inspect area, stay in operator zone, wear safety glasses, proper clothing, keep hands/feet away from rotating parts, discharge cover, don't pull mower back, mow in daylight, check vibration, shut off engine before cleaning chute.

Slope Operation Safety

Mow across slopes, not up/down. Watch for hazards. Ensure footing. Do not mow near drop-offs or on slopes > 15 degrees or wet grass.

Child Safety Precautions

Keep children out of mowing area. Be alert and stop mower if child enters. Look behind before backing. Use care around obstacles.

Safe Handling Of Gasoline

Handle gasoline with care, use approved containers, refuel away from vehicles, keep nozzle in contact, extinguish ignition sources, never fuel indoors or hot engine.

Section 3: Assembling Your Lawn Mower

Removing Unit From Carton

Open carton, remove loose parts, lay carton flat, remove packing material. Roll or slide unit out and check for loose parts.

Disconnecting Spark Plug Wire

Before setup, disconnect the spark plug wire from the spark plug and ground it against the engine.

Assembling Handle

Lift and pull back upper handle to operating position. Ensure lower handle is seated securely. Tighten wing nuts on carriage bolts.

Section 5: Operating Your Lawn Mower

Pre-Operation Checks

Ensure lawn is clear of stones, sticks, wire, or other objects. Do not cut wet grass. Adjust cutting height as needed.

Starting Engine Procedure

Attach spark plug wire. Prime engine. Squeeze blade control handle. Pull recoil starter rope with a rapid, continuous stroke.
