Overview

The Bosch Smart Lock EL800A is a sophisticated electronic door lock designed for enhanced security and convenience in residential and commercial settings. It integrates multiple access methods, including PIN codes, key cards, fingerprints, and a traditional mechanical key, offering a versatile and robust security solution.

Function Description

The primary function of the Bosch Smart Lock EL800A is to secure a door, providing controlled access through various authentication methods. It allows for the registration of multiple users with different access privileges, such as master users, normal users, and one-time users. The lock features a smart number pad for PIN code entry, a card reader for key cards, and a fingerprint reading panel for biometric authentication. For emergency situations, it includes a mechanical key override and an emergency power port for external power supply.

The lock incorporates a system menu accessible via an 'S' switch, allowing master users to manage settings such as adding or deleting users (PIN codes, key cards, fingerprints), changing the unlock mode, and adjusting language settings. It also supports network integration (optional), enabling remote management and monitoring with the purchase of an online component.

Security features are robust, including a virtual PIN code function that allows users to enter up to 32 digits, embedding the actual PIN code within a longer sequence to prevent onlookers from deciphering it. The lock also has a 3-minute system lock-down feature after three failed access attempts, enhancing security against brute-force attacks. Alarm functions are integrated to detect break-ins, handle anti-pry attempts, and alert users to an unlocked main bolt or the use of the mechanical key. An SOS alarm (for network versions) can report emergencies to a terminal.

Usage Features

The Bosch Smart Lock EL800A offers a user-friendly experience with its multiple access options.

  • PIN Code Access: Users can enter their registered PIN code on the smart number pad. The virtual PIN code feature adds an extra layer of security by allowing random numbers to be entered before or after the actual PIN. Master PIN codes are used for system administration, while normal and one-time PIN codes grant regular access.
  • Key Card Access: Registered key cards can be tapped on the card reader for quick and convenient entry. The system supports adding normal and one-time key cards, with master users managing their registration and deletion.
  • Fingerprint Access: The fingerprint reading panel provides biometric authentication, allowing for swift and secure entry without the need for keys or codes. Master, normal, and SOS fingerprints can be registered, offering different levels of access and emergency functions.
  • Mechanical Key Override: In situations where electronic access methods are unavailable (e.g., forgotten PIN, electrical failure), a traditional mechanical key can be used to unlock the door. It is crucial to return the key to its original position after use.
  • Emergency Power Supply: If the batteries are depleted, an external power bank can be connected to the emergency power port (Micro-USB) to temporarily power the lock, allowing access.
  • Force Lock: A short press of the 'I' switch activates the "Force lock" function, which can only be deactivated by a master PIN code, master fingerprint, or mechanical key. This feature provides an immediate security enhancement when needed.
  • Child's Lock: The inner body handle includes a child's lock feature, which can be activated by pressing a button for 3-5 seconds, preventing accidental unlocking from the inside. It can be deactivated by pressing the unlock button from inside and then pressing again for 3-5 seconds.
  • Volume Control: The lock offers three levels of volume control, allowing users to adjust the audio feedback to their preference.
  • Unlock Mode: Users can switch between "safe mode" and "deactivate safe mode" through the system settings, tailoring the lock's security behavior.
  • Language Settings: The lock supports multiple languages, including Chinese and English, which can be changed via the system menu.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance is essential to ensure the longevity and optimal performance of the Bosch Smart Lock EL800A.

  • Battery Replacement: The lock operates on four 1.5V AA alkaline batteries. Users are advised to use genuine alkaline batteries. The manual indicates that batteries can last approximately one year with 10 uses per day. It is crucial to replace all four batteries simultaneously when the low battery reminder is heard. Using incorrect battery types can lead to an explosion. Old batteries should be disposed of responsibly.
  • Cleaning: The lock should not be cleaned with water or chemical substances like oil or benzene, as this can cause short circuits, aging, or paint stripping. A dry, soft cloth is recommended for cleaning.
  • PIN Code Management: Users are advised to change their PIN codes regularly to maintain security.
  • Environmental Protection: The lock should not be exposed to rain, direct sunlight, or harsh outdoor environments, as these conditions can damage the electronic components.
  • Physical Protection: Avoid hitting the lock with hard objects, which could cause physical damage or malfunction.
  • Mechanical Key Storage: The mechanical key should be kept in a safe place outside the home (e.g., in a car or office) for emergency access.
  • Troubleshooting: In case of a touch screen malfunction, restarting the device with an emergency power supply connected to the Micro-USB port is recommended.
  • Professional Repair: Users are explicitly warned against attempting to repair or disassemble the lock themselves to avoid unnecessary damage or loss. Any issues should be addressed by authorized service personnel.
  • Flammable Materials: Do not place flammable materials such as gas, paint, or gasoline near the smart lock to prevent explosions or fires.
