Overview

This document describes the Bosch Fridge-Freezer, model KDN.., providing comprehensive instructions for its installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Function Description

The Bosch Fridge-Freezer is designed for refrigerating and freezing food, as well as for making ice. It features separate compartments for refrigeration and freezing, allowing for optimal storage conditions for various food types. The appliance incorporates a fully automatic NoFrost system in the freezer compartment, eliminating the need for manual defrosting. It also includes a Super Freezing function to rapidly freeze fresh food, preserving its nutritional value, flavor, and appearance. The appliance is equipped with an LED light for interior illumination and a temperature display for monitoring the freezer compartment's set temperature. Alarm functions are integrated to alert users to an open door or a temperature rise in the freezer compartment.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Climate Class: The appliance is designed for specific climate classes (SN, N, ST, T), indicating the permissible ambient temperatures for operation.
    • SN: +10 °C to 32 °C
    • N: +16 °C to 32 °C
    • ST: +16 °C to 38 °C
    • T: +16 °C to 43 °C
    • The appliance remains fully functional down to +5 °C for SN climate class.
  • Refrigerant: The refrigeration circuit uses a small quantity of environmentally friendly but flammable refrigerant (R600a). The amount of refrigerant is indicated on the rating plate.
  • Electrical Connection: The appliance operates on 220–240 V/50 Hz alternating current and requires a correctly installed socket with a protective conductor, protected by a 10 A to 16 A fuse. It complies with protection class I.
  • Installation Height: Intended for use up to a maximum height of 2000 meters above sea level.
  • Freezer Temperature Range: The freezer compartment temperature can be set from -16 °C to -24 °C.
  • Freezing Capacity: Information on the freezing capacity is available on the rating plate.
  • Dimensions: A minimum distance of 75 mm to the back wall should not be exceeded. The door should be able to open by 90°.
  • LED Lighting: Features a maintenance-free LED light.

Usage Features

  • Temperature Setting:
    • Refrigerator Compartment: Temperature is set via a temperature controller (Fig. 1/11). Recommended setting is in line with the marking. Clockwise adjustment lowers temperatures. Adjustments may be needed for ambient temperatures below 16°C or above 32°C, or when the door is frequently opened or large quantities of food are placed inside.
    • Freezer Compartment: Temperature is set using the temperature selection button (Fig. 4/3) from -16 °C to -24 °C. The last selected value is saved and displayed (Fig. 4/1).
  • Super Freezing: Activated by pressing the temperature selection button (Fig. 4/3) until the Super display (Fig. 4/2) is lit. This function rapidly freezes food and automatically switches off after approximately 2.5 days. It is recommended to activate 4-6 hours before placing fresh food, or 24 hours for maximum freezing capacity.
  • Alarm Functions:
    • Door Alarm: A continuous sound activates if the appliance door is open for more than one minute. Closing the door deactivates the alarm.
    • Temperature Alarm: Sounds if the freezer compartment becomes too warm, indicated by a flashing temperature display (Fig. 4/1). This can occur upon initial switch-on, when large quantities of fresh food are added, or if the door is left open too long. The alarm can be switched off by pressing the temperature setting button (Fig. 4/3).
  • Storage Zones: The refrigerator compartment has different chill zones. The coldest zone is between the vegetable container and the glass shelf above the air outlet openings, ideal for perishable foods. The warmest zone is at the top of the door, suitable for items like hard cheese and butter.
  • Vegetable Container: Features a humidity controller (Fig. 6) to adjust air humidity based on the quantity of fruit and vegetables stored, optimizing freshness.
  • Interior Fittings: Shelves and door shelves are repositionable. Glass shelves can be pulled forward and removed. Door shelves can be lifted and removed (Fig. 3, Fig. 5).
  • Ice Pack (optional): Can be removed to temporarily cool food or slow thawing during power failures.
  • Ice Cube Tray: Filled 3/4 with water and placed in the freezer. Can be loosened with a blunt implement if stuck, and ice cubes released by twisting or holding under water (Fig. 7).
  • Bottle Shelf (optional): Provides secure storage for bottles (Fig. 8).

Maintenance Features

  • Cleaning:
    • Frequency: Occasionally clean the back of the appliance to avoid increased power consumption.
    • Procedure:
      1. Unplug the appliance or switch off the fuse.
      2. Remove frozen food and store in a cool place, using an ice pack if available.
      3. Clean the interior with a soft cloth, lukewarm water, and a pH-neutral washing-up liquid. Avoid getting water into controls, lighting, ventilation openings, or separating plate openings.
      4. Wipe the door seal with clear water and dry thoroughly.
      5. Reconnect the appliance and return frozen food.
    • Prohibited Cleaning Agents: Do not use large volumes of water, steam cleaners, sand-, chloride-, or acid-based cleaning agents, solvents, scouring or abrasive sponges. Do not clean shelves or containers in a dishwasher.
  • Defrosting: The freezer compartment features a fully automatic NoFrost system, so manual defrosting is not required. If the evaporator becomes covered in thick ice due to prolonged door opening, the appliance should be switched off and moved away from the wall with the door open to allow defrosting. Condensation should be mopped up from the evaporation pan (Fig. 10).
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides a detailed table of common faults, possible causes, and remedial actions to help users resolve minor issues themselves before contacting customer service.
  • Customer Service: Contact information is provided for customer service, requiring the product number (E-Nr.), production number (FD), and consecutive numbering (Z-Nr.) from the rating plate (Fig. 9).
