What to do if neither Bose 901 Speaker System plays any sound?

If neither of your Bose speakers is producing sound, try connecting them to another receiver or amplifier that you know is working correctly. If the speakers then play sound, the problem isn't with the speakers themselves. Keep in mind that the tonal balance of the 901 speakers will not be correct if the 901 active equalizer is not in use with the second receiver or amplifier.
